This temple is located high up on a mountain peak, not too far away from Kanatal in Uttarakhand. You would first need to drive down to a place called Kaddukhal and park your vehicle there, before you embark on the climb to the temple. There are two ways in which you can reach the temple - either by using the ropeway (cable car) or trekking for a distance of around 2km up the steep mountain slope leading to the temple. Once you board the cable car (after waiting in the queue for half an hour or more, depending on the crowd), it takes only 5-10 minutes to reach the temple entrance. However, if you decide to trek instead, it will take you 30-60 minutes or more to get there, depending on your age, health and fitness levels. The ropeway ride is smooth and quick, and offers a spectacular aerial view of the mountains and valleys below. Once you reach the temple, you will realize that the climb was well worth the effort. It is a beautiful sight in terms of its architecture and simplicity. It is also clean, well-maintained and has ample space in the courtyard surrounding it. The main shrine has a small, but beautiful idol of the Goddess and you will experience calm and peaceful vibes as you stand or sit there, in front of the garbha griha. In addition to the main deity, there are idols of Hanuman Ji, Bhairon Ji, Lord Shiva, Parvathi Ji and little Ganesh Ji as well, in the premises. The courtyard of the temple offers breath taking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It tends to get a bit cold and windy out there because of the high altitude; so, do ensure that you wear something warm while you are up there. While in the vicinity of Kanatal, Chamba or Dhanaulti, a trip to this temple is strongly recommended, for both, religious reasons as well as to get a beautiful view of the scenic surrounding region. Besides, if you are up for some adventure, you can also choose to trek all the way up to the temple and make the entire experience a well-rounded and satisfying one!

Surkanda Devi Temple, located in Uttarakhand, is a magnificent temple dedicated to the worship of Sati mata's head and is one of the 52 Shaktpeeths. The temple is situated on top of a hill and provides a stunning view of the Himalayas from all sides. As someone who has visited the temple multiple times, I highly recommend it as a must-visit destination for those in the vicinity of Mussoorie, Dhanaulty, or Chamba. To reach the temple, one must first travel to either Dhanaulty via Dehradun and Mussoorie, or Chamba via Rishikesh. The local market, Kaddukhal, is a small town that acts as a gateway to the temple. From there, visitors can either trek for 1.3 km to reach the temple or take a cable car that costs approximately 200 rupees per person. The trek to the temple is invigorating and offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. During the winter season, the temple is covered in snow and looks even more breathtaking, although it can become quite crowded during this time. The temple is surrounded by small shops and fast food stalls that offer refreshments to the visitors. However, it is important to note that public transport to this area is limited, and visitors may have to arrange for their own transportation. Overall, Surkanda Devi Temple is a must-visit destination for those seeking a peaceful and spiritual experience in the midst of natural beauty. The trek, the cable car ride, and the mesmerizing views from the temple make it a worthwhile journey for anyone who loves nature and adventure.
