Just a 45 mins trek (3 km one way) to reach the pond. It starts from the Hanuman temple which is 7-8 kms before the Munsiyari near to the gate of Khaliya top trek. Even though it's a short trek but it's really worth to do that as the view of the Panchchuli peaks are just superb and the way towards the pond itself is amazing (Specially in winters) as it passes from the forest area and the moment you reach to the top, the view is just stunning. It is open throughout the year but the best time to be there is after monsoon as the whole area will be full of greenery which makes it more beautiful and if you're a snow lover then come here in January and do the trek, you will be just amazed. You can do it alone or if want to hire a guide then ask any hotel desk and they will arrange it for you (500-600 Rs max. in off season). Make sure that you are physically fit to go and have habit of walking for few hours. Do carry the water proof shoes or an extra pair of it, If going in winters. As per the belief, this lake is always full of water and never gets dry. There're couple of stories regarding it but it's normal in mountain area. A must do trek in Munsiyari.

One should travel 10 Km from Munsiyari upto Hanuman Temple..park your vehicle here..Trek starts from Hanuman Temple..The Trek is doable..Be light on your breakfast..Keep enough drinking water..Better if trekking shoes..It will take 2 to 3 hours to complete the trek..The scenes on the way are unforgettable.. Important info....After first shower in the month of June the "liches" comes out and it becomes very dangerous. We couldn't even stand at Thamri Kund due to Liches..So beware of it..Good trekking shoes and high ankle socks might help a bit but avoid going in the raining season.. Otherwise it is beautiful one..

Thamri Kund is a roughly 3km trek, with a slight ascent in the start, altitude rising from 2600 metres at start to roughly 2900 metres, and mostly straight in latter half. You can get different views of the Pancha Chuli on the trek route, many times somewhat masked by trees. The kund by itself is nothing special, just a small little pond with algae and clear waters. If you have visited Nainital, Sattal etc prior, then this will feel a waste. This trek can be a good acclimatizing trek in Munsyari, before you go to Khaliya top, which is a 8km trek and rises from 2500m to 3500m

Thamri Kund is a peaceful forest lake just about 1 km from Khaliya Dwar—the starting point for the Khaliya Top trek. You can plan your day by getting dropped from Munsiyari, covering Thamri Kund and then starting the trek of Khaliya top if you plan to camp there for the night. You can plan to club both the treks but you really have to be at peak fitness levels to want to do both in a day, not advisable. Alternatively, stay overnight at the Khaliya base camp and head toward Zero Point the next morning.

The trail to Thamri Kund is a well-laid, beautiful walk through dense forest, making it a refreshing experience for nature lovers. The tranquility of the place is unmatched—no shops or crowds, just birdsong and clean mountain air. There's a small entry fee at the gate, and you can buy water bottles there, but do carry essentials as there are no other amenities along the way.

On clear days, you're treated to stunning views of the Panchachuli peaks, and the lake itself is a quiet, serene spot nestled between trees—a perfect place to unwind and soak in the natural beauty.

Also, don’t miss Birthi Falls, Thamri Kund, and Khaliya Top—they’re all on the same road and make for a perfect nature-packed itinerary...

A 3km trek from the base, this place is totally worth the efforts. The hill is covered with wild strawberries which you can see during may-june.

It houses several species of birds including the state bird of Uttarakhand- the Himalayan Monal. You can spot a Monal if you start early in the morning about 4AM from the base point. Monals are extremely shy and can be spotted only by the birders who reach first. From the top of this hill, you can see the snowclad Panchchuli peaks on one side and the beautiful valley on the other side. Trek on this hill is moderate -easy trek. However, one must be very careful, as this place has a lot of leeches (known as jaunkh in local language). So wear full length clothes and covered shoes and carry some salt if possible.

The Thamrikund lake is a perennial lake and you can spot birds like Eurasian Jay, Duck, Fulvous Breasted Woodpecker, Cheer Pheasant, Himalayan Griffon, Monal etc. near the lake. The lake looks serene and extremely beautiful with all the flora and fauna. If lucky, you may also spot musk deer.

There are two ways of getting to the lake so taking a local guide is advisable.

Hope the intel is...
