Ultra nice. I loved it very much this place is very good for religious people who want to visit lord vishnu temple as well as high mountains. Thus is a very nice place for himalayan visitors. Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the Goddess Yamuna in Hinduism. It is situated at an altitude of 3,293 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas and located approximately 30 kilometers North of Uttarkashi, the headquarters of the Uttarkashi district in the Garhwal Division of Uttarakhand, India. Ideally the first destination for beginning the Chota Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand, Yamunotri Dham showers its blessings to the pilgrims to have a safe and unforgettable spiritual journey ahead. Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple is seated at a height of 3293 m and along the gorgeous River Yamuna in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The actual source of River Yamuna is at a short distance from the temple located at an altitude of about 4,421 m (14,505 ft) on the Kalind Mountain. The River Yamuna has also been given the status of the nurture of Indian lands and thus is worshipped widely amongst Hindus. The journey to Yamunotri isn’t complete without preparing potato and rice in the hot spring of Surya Kund near the holy shrine. Devotees offer this in the temple and take the cooked rice home in the form of Prasad.Due to its high altitude location, Yamunotri Dham remains open to the devotees for only a brief period of six months. The end of April or beginning of the month of May is chosen for the opening of the portals of this sacred Hindu shrine as the snow melts and the weather becomes pleasant. The temple closes right after the festival of Diwali and its deity is moved to Kharsali Village to be worshipped for next six months of winter season. Therefore, the best time to visit Yamunotri is between April and November with April to mid-June and October to mid-November being ideal most. The month of April marks the onset of the summer season in Yamunotri the daytime is warm. The temperature in summer that lasts till mid-June ranges between 15℃ and 25℃, keeping it quite pleasant for devotees to perform the pilgrimageThe season of monsoon is packed with heavy rains that sometimes continue for days. The average temperature drops a bit with  23℃ being the highest. Though the Yatra is carried out in this season in full swing as well, it is advisable to check the weather forecast and carry necessary gears like raincoats, umbrella, walking sticks, etc.Yamunotri like all other Chota Chardham destinations closes down for a period of six months with the onset of winter in mid to end November. The mercury dips to sub-zero figures and the entire region is covered under the thick blanket of snow. The idol, then is brought to lower region of Kharsali Village for the...

Religious place. One out of chota 4 dhams.

On the western side of Garhwal Himalayas, in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, lies the holy place of Yamunotri. About 3,293 metres above the sea level, Yamunotri stands proudly with its enormous mountain peaks, glaciers and gushing waters of Yamuna. River Yamuna, the second most sacred river of India, originates in Yamunotri, making it one of the pilgrimage sites in the Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.

The venerated goddess Yamuna is said to be the daughter of Sun and twin sister of Yama (the god of death); in Vedas, Yamuna is called Yami (lady of life). A bath in the sanctified waters of Yamuna is said to cleanse all sins and protect from untimely or painful death. Such strong associations in Hindu mythology place Yamuna Devi (goddess) in high ranks of divinity.

The River Yamuna originates from the Yamunotri glacier, which rises up to 6,315 meters above sea level, and lies against a steep slope just below the top of the Kalind peak. From here Yamuna comes down into Saptarishi Kund and from there gushes southwards in a series of waterfalls. To the west of the Kalind Parbat is located Banderpoonch, which is a dominant mountain in central Himalayan area of Garhwal and divides the watershed of Yamuna from that of the Ganges. Coming out from Kalind Parbat, Yamuna is also known as Kalindi.

As per a legend, Lord Hanuman doused the fire of his tail after burning Ravan's Lanka in the chilly waters of Yamuna at Banderpooch. That is why the peak is called Bander (monkey) Pooch (tail) - monkey's tail. Another legend sees Yamunotri as the hermitage of ancient sage Asit Muni. The Muni used to bath both in Yamuna and Ganga, but in his old age he couldn't travel to Gangotri. Realising his problem, a stream of Ganga started to flow beside...

Yamunotri temple is situated in Garhwal Himalayas in UttarKashi district in Uttarakhand . The Yamunotri originates from sapt kund in Kalindi Parvat mountain range and from their comes down to move in as a Yamuna river in Mathura,Delhi and make confluence in Prayag with Ganga and Adrishya Saraswati . It is said one mountain Bander Punchh divides Ganges and Yamuna in Yamunotri. The darshan to Yamunotri dham is very difficult and tiresome due to temperature of area is very low and because of snow fall. Their are two routes devitees can have darshan one from Janaki Chatti and other from hanuman chatii. Janaki chatti route is shorter about 07km.and Hanuman chatti route longer about 012km.One can reach to Yamunotri either walking or hire horse riding, palanquin or prithu. The prices are fixed by govt.but bargain is very common and can fixed and go accordingly. I went walking to have darshan of Yamunotri ,routes are very difficult tiresome any how it took about 03 hours in reaching near main deity of maa Yamuna devi.As soon as I reached there planned to have darshan hence came in line . Very first I went towards a boiling water Taptkund people take bath in this kund and many saw have kept rice to boil and taje it as a prasad of Yamunotri. Before have darshan in temple one should go to divya shila darshan and Surya Kund bath and then go to have darshan of goddess. The temple is very divine and atmosphere is full with religious fervour and slogans of Maa Yamunotri every where in the mountain . The atmosphere was very cool and crowdy everywhere just some moment I view the temple area and took blessings of Maa and decided to went back . The return journey was fast as it was downwards and our bus at Janaki chatti bus stand waiting us to take us in our hotel where were staying in Kharadi. The devotees come from May month to November month for darshan and afterwords deity is shifted to Kharsali village about 01km.distance from Janakichatti with vedic rituals and devotees slogans. The deity is worshipped by priest in remaining six months and afterwords again brought in May months with vedic rituals and devotees again start coming from all over the. country...

The holy abode of Goddess Yamuna is situated near the foot of Kalind Parbat (peak) and on a side of Banderpoonch Parbat. Nestled in the intimidating Himalayas, Yamunotri temple is believed to be constructed by the king of Tehri, Naresh Sudarshan Shah in 1839. One of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites, the stunning setting of the temple is enough to fill the hearts of the devotees with wonder. Yamuna River jets down from one side of the temple, which houses Goddess Yamuna in the form of a black marble idol. Ganga Devi too finds her place, in white stone, by the side of Yamuna. The temple of Yamuna closes its portals as winter approaches on Yama Dwitiya (second day after Diwali or on Bhai Dooj). Devi's winter address is Kharsali village where she reaches in a palanquin and will remain for the entire period of winters. On Akshaya Tritiya (occurring on April/May), the goddess comes back to grace Yamunotri again. Both closing and opening ceremonies of the Yamunotri shrine are brought about with celebrations, elaborate rituals and vedic chants

Yamnotri dham is the first of the Char dhams to be visited between the months April to November. While the place is really crowded during the first 4 months the last 4 months see considerably less visitors. One has to park or travel to Janki Chatti and start the 6km trek for Yamnotri Dham from there. The trek takes about 3-4 hrs to complete depending upon your speed but do travel as light as possible for the trek since its a bit steep. Lots of places on the way for chai or Cold drinks but prepare to shell out double of what you normally do. The main temple is generally crowded in the morning and hence, we decide to reach in the evening around 6. On reaching first you have to take a bath at the suryakund which has hot water and this takes away most of tiredness of your 6 km trek to reach the temple. Post that you can perform rituals and offerings to the Yamuna Mata with assistance from a pandit of the temples as well as visit the Main mandir and Hanuman Mandir alongside. One can find an adequate pandit as per the region of country he/she is visiting from. Coming down to Janki Chatti takes about 2-3 hrs but there is shortage of light so be careful. Carrying a torch is the best possible way to overcome this problem. One can hire horse or palki or pithu for children too to get the trek done to & fro but they are available at heavy pricing which needs to be fixed while on your way up.

Visiting Yamunotri Dham was one of the most peaceful and soul-refreshing experiences of my life. The journey to the dham is nothing short of magical — you’re surrounded by lush green mountains, gushing streams, and breathtaking views at every turn. The air is pure, and the natural beauty all around truly connects you to something divine. One of the best parts about Yamunotri is that it’s still not as commercialized as other dhams like Kedarnath. There’s a serene, untouched charm here that makes the spiritual experience even more meaningful. The trek is moderate and scenic, and you’ll find yourself walking alongside the majestic Yamuna River with the sound of birds and flowing water keeping you company. The temple itself is peaceful and not overly crowded. You can take your time, sit by the hot springs, and enjoy the spiritual ambiance without the rush and chaos that often comes with more commercial pilgrim sites. If you’re planning a Char Dham yatra or even a standalone trip, I highly recommend visiting Yamunotri before it becomes commercialized. It’s a rare blend of natural beauty, spiritual calm, and untouched Himalayan charm. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike.
