After independence of India in 1947, Government of India declared beneficial schemes for freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for patriotism and made India free from British rule. But number of dedicated freedom fighters for their self respect and dedicated sacrifice for mother land refused to accept the Government beneficial schemes viz. pension to survive in return. Because they gave their whole life for the nation from their heart and never expected anything as compensation. A group of them lead by Susen sir, formed this, " Amar Kutir Society" as their shelter, where they started living independently initially through cultivation and as days went on started their exclusive handicrafts for exhistance maintaining their ego and self dependence. It came out with flying colours as traditional Indian handicrafts designed and created by them were very ethnic, attractive and aristocratic. It has earned International reputation for a genuine centre for hand made articles full of artistic conception. Now it has an exclusive show room at Amar Kutir, national design and development centre for crafts, batik and bandni training centre for making women independent and a shelter for all small artists around to sell their products from a reputed platform. Government has given it the status of eco tourism park for its natural beauty and pollution free environment at present. Excellent place to stay near Santiniketan, the famous Sonajhuri Hut is around 3KM walk. Pros: Cheap but good size room with AC, Geyser, quite atmosphere with a pond and mango grove adjacent to the cottages, green forest surrounding the resort is additional charm to stroll and lastly the hearty behavior of the staff make the stay memorable.
