About 900 years ago, in the midst of dense forest, Garh Jungle, a temple was constructed for the God of gods, Mahadev. When most of the temple around this region were constructed in the Pala style and Sena style of Eastern India, this temple was constructed in the Nagara style of Northern India. The temple stood on a large stone platform and was constructed with laterite and sandstone and was originally plastered with lime. Since its construction in 12th century AD, the Rarheshwar Shiva Temple has undergone a sea change. But traces of lime plaster originally done in the 12th century AD can still be seen on its walls. The oldest part of the temple is the sanctum sanctorum(Garbhagriha) and is enshrined with a huge Shiva Lingam. Rarheshwar Shiva Temple has gone through the test of Time and one can find instant peace after entering the temple area. One can still see the dense bushes and trees around the temple which was once part of the dense Garh Jungle. If someone like history, architecture or peaceful environment, he/she must visit Rarheshwar Shiva Temple.
