Tips for Your Visit: Pre-Wedding Shoots: If you're planning a pre-wedding shoot, consider bringing your own camera team to avoid potential upselling tactics.
Boat Rides: For the best views, opt for a boat ride during the early morning hours (6-8 AM) in August, September, or October. The weather is pleasant, and the flowers are in full bloom.
Afternoon and Evening Visits: If you're not interested in a pre-wedding shoot, you can visit Bortir Bil in the afternoon or evening. Enjoy the comfortable weather and indulge in the various snack options available.
Weather: Keep an eye on the weather forecast before your visit. A cloudy day with a cool breeze can enhance your boating experience.
Transportation: Consider traveling to Bortir Bil by private car or two-wheeler for convenience and flexibility. Avoid renting autos, as they might not be cost-effective or comfortable.
*Consider weekdays for a quieter and potentially cheaper experience: If possible, try to visit Bortir Bil on weekdays, as it can be less crowded than weekends. The availability of boats might also be better, and you might be able to negotiate better rates.

Read moreThis small Bengal village has become a hotspot for daytrippers. From nature lovers to photographers and couples looking for the ideal location for a pre-wedding shoot, Bortir Bill on the outskirts of Kolkata has suddenly surfaced a destination of choice for those suffocating in the city. Bortir Bill, a vast wetland surrounded by farmlands in 24 Parganas (North), located between Barasat and Barrackpore, has seen a huge influx of visitors in recent days. Located in the Beraberia village in the historic area of Nilgang, the area has always had large swathes of farmlands. The locals, mostly farmers, spend their time here collecting and selling sapla and catching fish in the wetland during monsoon season. In winter, when water recedes from the adjoining fields, they sow paddy and onions. Locals are now offering the tourists boat ride, charging Rs 50 â Rs 100 per head, or even higher depending on the weather and time involved for the photoshoot. This picturesque location so near Kolkata became the ideal gateway for the holiday crowd. To get to the main waterbody, one must cross stacks of path kathi (jute sticks) along a path wide enough for only two-wheelers. The waterbody is mostly used by locals for retting their jute. However in winter even SUVs can reach here. We visited there on December 25, 2020 as the water dried up; however we got to see another level of beauty of this...

The Scenery and Ambience: Bortir Bill is truly beautiful, especially at sunset. The golden hour here is breathtaking and perfect for photo enthusiastsâno wonder itâs a popular pre-wedding photoshoot location! We took some mobile shots ourselves and loved how they turned out.
Amenities: There are small local shops selling hot tea and snacks, which was nice to enjoy while soaking in the view. Boat rides are available, priced at around Rs. 100 per person. Though we didnât take a ride, we saw plenty of visitors enjoying this scenic experience on the water.
Things to Note: Unfortunately, a few things detract from the experience. The road conditions leading here are not great, and visitors may encounter locals collecting Rs. 10 or 20 at multiple spots as âdonationsâ for puja or local football matches. These collections are often done forcefully, which was quite annoying and put a damper on the visit.
Overall, we spent about an hour here, watching the sunset and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Despite some inconveniences, the serene beauty of Bortir Bill is memorable and can make for a lovely outing if you...
