Chatakpur eco village which is cradled within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, is located at an altitude of 7887 ft. in the hill town of Darjeeling district. It is not known to many like us although it is said to be famous among North Bengal bound tourists. It boasts of splendid views of snow clad mountains of the Himalayan range and a lush green forest of alpine trees. Vehicles are not easily available to this village. From Darjeeling it took us almost 3-4 hours to drive there. The road is really steep and full of rocks and boulders and both ascent and descent are scary, but adventurous. It is full of homestays in a very green surrounding just at the entry point of the wild life sanctuary which is a habitat of wild bears, black panthers and leopards. It was a wonderful place serene beauty unleashed wildness rustic Woodland. The entire area has a natural beauty and also is a view point to see the sunrise sunset and above all kanchenjunga peak. It refreshes the mind and soul. Jungle terrain was adventurous. Inhabitants are so cordial and helpful.This place is selected for tourism development from West Bengal forest Department. They have built few cottages for tourist stay.This is a good effort. But they should look after the maintenance of the tourist stay at the cottage. The entire room is shabby looking curtain was not washed for long, carpet was not changed, and the geyser was not working fully .
