Puroshuttampur at Singur is a well-known place for the devotees of Kali. This Kali temple was established by the village head of Chalkabati 600 years ago, and the deity of this temple has earned the name of Dakat Kali. The legend dates six centuries back when Puroshuttampur in Singur was covered with thick forest. In those days a notorious dacoit name Gagan used to plunder and loot the zamindars and the pilgrims. On many occasions, pilgrims were abducted for a human sacrifice to please the goddess, Kali. On one such occasion, Maa Sarada Moyi of Dhakineshwar on her way from Kamarpukur to Dhakineshwar was obstructed by Gagan. The dacoit was spellbound and horrified to find a furious live Kali at the back of Maa Sarada Moyi. Soon after the incident, the village head of Chalkabati founded a Kali Temple on the same spot where Goddess Kali had appeared in her real self. From that day the deity of goddesses Kali in this temple is known as Dakat Kali after Gagan dacoit who in repentance for his sinful ways transformed into a pious, ardent devotee of goddess Kali taking care of the pilgrims.

The entire population of Puroshattampur, Zamindar, and Mallickpur village stopped performing Kali puja in their villages and even in their residences, considering the temple of Dakat Kali as the holiest place of convergence for the devotees of Kali the Adhi Shakti. On the auspicious days of Kali Puja, the deity is offered ceremonial religious rituals four times a day. The holy water within the the earthen holy container is replenished with a fresh one in closed doors, in the presence only of the chief priest.

Lakhs of devotees gather on the day of Kali puja to get the holy prasad. On the evening of the Kali Puja, a Tubri (A base firework ejecting colorful sparkles at a great height) competition is organized, competitors from nearby districts also take part with great enthusiasm. At present under the care of Dakat Kali Unayan Samiti, a trust, the temple now is a center of pilgrimage. Devotees from all parts of India are drawn...

Dakat Kali Mandir is one of the most spiritually powerful and historically rich temples in West Bengal. The temple is dedicated to Maa Kali, and the divine aura here is truly mesmerizing. The unique architecture, with its vibrant red and yellow exterior, immediately captures your attention and sets the stage for a deeply spiritual experience. One of the most interesting aspects of this temple is its history. As the name suggests, Dakat Kali Mandir is associated with the dacoits (dacoit means bandit), who used to worship Maa Kali before setting out on their expeditions. This legend adds an aura of mysticism to the temple, making it a fascinating place to visit. The idol of Maa Kali inside the temple is awe-inspiring, with her fierce yet protective form blessing all devotees. The temple premises are well-maintained, and the atmosphere is filled with chants and devotional energy. The evening aarti is a must-experience event, creating an atmosphere of pure devotion and spiritual upliftment. Another great aspect of the temple is its peaceful surroundings.
