Deul Park, located in Bonkati near Gourangapur in the Bardhaman district of West Bengal, is a serene and historically rich destination that offers a refreshing escape into nature for families, nature lovers, and history enthusiasts. Situated on the banks of the Ajay River and nestled inside the Ramnabagan forest area, the park combines natural beauty, cultural heritage, and leisure activities, making it a favored spot for weekend outings and picnics, especially for those living in nearby cities like Durgapur.
One of the defining features of Deul Park is its lush, sprawling green environment. The park stretches over a large area with well-kept lawns, vibrant flower beds, and a tranquil riverbank that lends itself well to peaceful walks and relaxation. The presence of the Ajay River flowing alongside adds to the scenic charm, with soothing water views and the gentle sounds of the river enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. Visitors often appreciate the cool breeze and quiet ambiance, making Deul an ideal location for unwinding from the noise and stress of urban life.
Deul Park also holds significant historical and cultural importance. The area is closely linked to the legacy of Ichhai Ghosh, a local medieval ruler remembered for his battles against neighboring kingdoms, including his historical conflict with Karnsen. The 900-year-old Ichhai Ghosh temple located inside the park is a key attraction, showcasing unique architectural styles characteristic of old Bengal temples. This temple adds spiritual and archaeological value to the park, attracting visitors interested in history and religious heritage.
Besides its natural and historical richness, Deul Park offers several recreational activities. There is a dedicated children’s park with non-operational rides that add a playful element for families visiting with kids. Visitors can also enjoy boating on the Ajay River, providing a refreshing way to explore the surroundings and engage with nature. The vast open spaces are perfect for picnics, with several visitors lauding the availability of simple traditional Bengali food in the resort’s restaurant, which adds local flavor to the experience.
Accommodations are available within the Deul Eco Resort, which enhances the park’s appeal as a weekend getaway destination. Visitors can book stays amid natural greenery, enjoying a blend of comfort and rustic charm. However, booking can sometimes be challenging due to limited digital presence for reservations, which means travelers often rely on local contacts or advance planning.
Accessing Deul Park requires a bit of effort as the road leading to the park passes through the dense Garh Jungle, a narrow and scenic route that adds adventure and wildlife viewing opportunities en route. The challenge of reaching the park is often praised as an enriching part of the...
Read moreBoth Garh Jungle and Deul Park are next to each other. If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then this is your place. It is quiet and serene from journey to destination. The journey from the highway would lead you to a single lane road with few under-construction residential complex, a college, few petrol pumps, village kinda places along with few ATMs and then loads of trees on side which would already give you the appeal of a forest. Use navigator on your phone, it helps accurately. But, navigator cant help so well once you have entered the kaccha road. But, there on dont forget to notice a man sitting by the kaccha road at different turns of your journey to guide you through. You will find sign board on the kaccha road thrice but only in Bengali to guide you through.Once you have made your turn from the single lane road to the kaccha road, its all Garh Jungle forest from there on. One turn takes you to the temple the other one to the Deul park. At the temple, the priest will guide you through. At the Deul park, you can stay at the accommodation inside the park. Fooding can be availed only if you are lodging. Outside the park gate, you could buy some snacks and have tea. Inside there are rides and boating facility which are all closed. The park is not too big but well maintained. Beautiful flowers blooming. You can sit spend some time, look at the lake. Then through the other gate you can go to the river. Some bathe in the river and some at a distance cooked for their picnic. Here, I preferred to sit and then to lie down on the sand and enjoy the quiet surrounding. With my someone special, the trip became...
Read moreVisited the park on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The approach road to the park is narrow but of decent quality. The park has a nominal entrance fee of 20 INR for adults. Parking inside the park is expensive at 100 INR for cars. But there is lot of space outside to park. There is a huge lake inside the park and the sunset view is great. However there are not many benches to sit around the lake. The area is not very clean with lot of folks on picnic littering the spot with wastage and many people even using it as a toilet area near the parking. There is a toilet deeper inside the park ( in fact near the opposite side gate) , but it did not seem to be very clean or usable. Fortunately the Deul Park restaurant allowed visitors to use their toilets. The Toy Train ride inside the park was great. The train was covering 4 short rounds in about 5 mins for 20 INR. There are other Joy rides too at similar prices. There is a separate section like a mini zoo with some rabbits and birds. There are some slides and swings for children (Although it was mostly captured by adults) . Then there is a the section near the lake for hens and ducks. It was nice to watch but very smelly due to bird droppings. Overall its a nice area to spend the morning or afternoon. Cleanliness needs to improve and smoking inside the park needs to be prohibited. Picnic parties should be made to clean up. There was no Covid rules in place and practically it seemed there is no pandemic at all. This needs to...
