Jamidar Bari Garalgacha — Attraction in West Bengal

I went here for puja, this wonderful landlord's house. The idol here is very beautifully dressed. People come from far away to witness this puja. Also, the condition of this house is so good that it is rented out in Bibedari.

The Durga Puja of Garalgacha Jamidar Bari located in Chanditala II block of Serampore subdivision of Hooghly district dates back to 1767. This year I visited the Jamidar Bari popularly known as Babuder Bari twice – on Sasthi and Nabami.

Garalgacha Raj Bari is an old zamindar house known for its traditional Durga Puja. It's also known as "babuder Bari". The red-and-white puja hall and big courtyard, colorful glass windows, tall arches and the calm atmosphere of the place look very beautiful during the durga puja.

The Puja is nicely arranged, with enough seating and good management even when it is crowded. Though some parts of the house are old, it is still cared for better than many other heritage houses in Bengal.

We went to jamidar Bari Garalgacha on the day of Maha Sosthi, that is 6th day of Durga Puja. Total 35 km from my home in Kolkata to here. We took NH 19 and take left from Dankuni Crossing. Highway road condition was wonderful but local roads where little busy in traffic. Entire building is coloured as red and white. Ground is totally covered with red carpet and roof is wide open to the sky. It is two storey building, anyone can enter the ground floor to enjoy the beauty of Durga Pratima.
