Junglemahal Zoological Park earlier known as Jhargram Zoo has been established as a Deer Park in the year 1980, within a patch of natural forest at Khasjungle mouza, J.L No. 395 under Dhabani Beat of Jhargram Division at Jhargram. Subsequently, it was recognised as Jhargram Zoo (Small Category Zoo) on 9th September 2005 by Central Zoo Authority with the objectives of scientific management, conservation breeding of endangered species, high standard of maintenance for welfare of captive animals and also to develop empathy amongst the citizen of the area towards wildlife conservation, following the accepted norms and standard as framed by CZA. Vision of Junglemahal Zoological Park is to showcase the Biodiversity of Lateritic Eco-System.
Junglemahal Zoological Park, Jhargram, West Midnapur District, West Bengal, will provide rewarding experience to the visitors about the wildlife of the region. The display, care and awareness are such level to promote conservation of wildlife. Junglemahal Zoological Park will endeavour to breed the endangered species for display, exchange & rehabilitation in the wild. As such the flora & fauna exist in their natural pristine glory unhindered and unaffected. The Junglemahal Zoological Park will be 'Showcase' of rich biodiversity of Lateritic eco-systems of the State of West Bengal.

Read moreMagnificent & expansive are the words that aptly describe this zoo. Although regarded as a 'Mini Zoo', but in reality it's not small in size. This spectacular zoo is spread across a huge forest area, typically covered with tall Sal trees. Situated at a distance of 2.5 kilometres from the Jhargram railway station, this zoo can be reached both by walking as well as by hiring a toto. The entry ticket costs a nominal ₹15 only. After entering the zoo, you will come across several animal species. Some of the most fascinating animals and birds that I had observed during my trip, include :-
One Leopard
Rabbits - Kept in a huge open area, where they can freely run around and enjoy like their natural habitat.
Deers - This zoo is also referred to as the 'Deer Park', because it houses plenty of deers, Neel Gai and more.
Monkeys - Several species of monkeys are kept here, inside seperate cages.
Vulture & Hawk - A huge enclosure, where these big birds are kept, so that they can fly freely.
Reptiles - This Zoo has got a 'Reptile House' where diverse types of snakes are kept inside glass enclosure.
Bear - I was surprised to see so many bears kept together in an open space. The name of these bears are written on top of their respective caves.
Apart from the above ones, you will also come across jungle cats, birds, foxes etc.
