Malbazar Park — Attraction in West Bengal

MALBAZAR PARK Away from the hustle and bustle of the township, Malbazar Park is a pleasant and tranquil place where holiday- makers and weekenders can have a grand day out. It's a haven for courting couples. They bill and coo for hours. The park is as safe as houses for tryst between lovers. Malbazar Park is such an amusement park where visitors can breathe-in clean and fresh detoxified cool air, stroll on evenly manicured lawns and relax under shade trees. If you wish, you can have a joy-ride with your loved ones in a, specially made, toy- train that goes round and round inside the park. Children squeal with delight when they jump in the air on trampoline that has been newly installed in the park. Besides, there are other equipments where children can play on see-saw ( teeter -totter), swing-sets, roundabout (merry-go-round ) and go down the slides. There are beautiful birds, eye-catching parrots, cute rabbits and many more to watch. The park is teeming with visitors, especially the young, during festivals and vacations like the festivals of Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Christmas, New year's day, Independence day and Republic day. Last year, it had attracted one lac visitors. Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol are strictly prohibited inside the park. The park is located just to the west of bus terminus ( depot) beside the National Highway NH 31 A and spread over a sprawling area of 6.10 acres. It's owned, managed and maintained by The Parks and Gardens wing, North Division, Siliguri under the Department of Forest, Government of West Bengal. Inside the park, different types and varieties of plants of flowers, ferns, orchids, cacti, climbers, decorative plants and shade trees have been planted in a well-planned way leaving gras-covered even and smooth lawn between the rows of plants. The park provides a space for people to enjoy the bounties of nature. It's truly an abode of peace. In the middle, just from the entrance to the end, there is a wide footpath, paved with paver block tiles, to allow the visitors to walk on even and smooth surface. To add to the park's beauty, a rain-fed stream ( rivulet) meanders through it and exits at the southern end. Two decorated footbridges have been built over the stream. The toy- train has three coaches and all are pulled by a diesel engine ( of the shape of a steam engine of the British-era). The train engine and the coaches are fitted with pneumatic tyres to run round the park on a tile-paved smooth road. The train can carry 27 passengers at a time.
