The region boasts of many Himalayan birds, butterflies, wild animals, of which, the endangered Himalayan Salamander is noteworthy. The depth of water in the lake goes up to 3.5 meters and 10,000 square meters during the times of heavy rainfall. As the monsoon begins to recede, the water level in the Lake immediately starts to dry up. By the end of October, no trace of water can be found in the Lake. The Himalayan Salamander found in Namthing Pokhari is a keystone species of the lentic zones in the Eastern Himalayas. This endangered species belongs to an offshoot of the ancient family Salamandridae, which is known to have existed in Europe during the Miocene age, that is, between 13-25 million years ago. These salamanders are now entirely vanished in the other part of the world. Fortunately, they are still surviving in solitary Namthing Lake of...

Wonder if I should let it settle in the deep sea if my heart and let it be for the rest of my life - like a long lost love! Namthing - at the heart of the Sitong reserved forest about 4000 feet above the sea level, centering around the cute little lake where Salamanders live a peaceful life before they are completely wiped out of the planet, is the place of solitude with the Stars in the night, monsoon rain during the day and a game with sea of September cloud. The place is about 50 kilometers from New Jalpiguri through a near deserted road which complements well with the trees and steep altitude is waiting with open arms to conceal you from your life - for as long as you want, perhaps for the eternity. Dos 1. Treck to the mountain top near the lake to see the temple in the middle of nowhere 2. Enjoy the lake and the quiet moment. 3. Go the nearby crossing the climb the mountain to see the surrounding Don't. 1. Cross the fence to reach the lake and disturb the rare Salamanders 2. Litter 3. Create any sort of disturbances to the quiet place.
