Things to note : Do wear thermals and outer layer including gloves as it's chilling weather early in the morning; if you are planning for sunrise, if it's a misty weather you may not have great views ; expect delay due to onward and return traffic as it's narrow roads and you may have to park the cars much down the lane as and how you get late, do not be very early to this place as there is pretty much nothing much to see apart from sunrise
Tiger Hills observatory point is not worth the hype at all, a very undeveloped tourist spot where there is a shabby old gallery building which still looks unfinished and a few street sellers selling tea, coffee , winter clothes , souvenirs, people having very basic celestron telescope for viewing Kanchenjunga closer etc..It is hilarious that people found out the idea to rent thermocol mats to sit in the chilling weather inside the concrete gallery building 😂 at 20 rs per mat. Jugaad ka tourist place
This place clearly shows how tourism is just only in adverts and billboards and lacks in reality. This is the most popular spot in Darjeeling and see for yourself how it's just maintained. It's just a view point with no proper facilities for tourists. From a tourist point of view, Tiger Hills could have had a proper viewing deck with Heated rooms , Toilets,Amenities,Cafe ,a telescope view service, photo point , insta-worthy elements , gardens , seating, tourist info point, star gazing point and what not. This place shows how lack of co-ordination and efforts between individual govt depts , the area being under forest there is minimal things done
Be noted that Most of the beautiful sunrise/Kanchenjunga picturesque that you see are either DSLR photos taken on very bright and sunny days and it's not the case always.Weather is the key here
Tour operators bring you here early in the morning 4 - 5 am at chilling weather to watch the sunrise .There are many points in Darjeeling to view the Kanchenjunga mountain outline including Japanese temple, Mall road ,Batasia Loop and other places if you ask the locals. Once you see the sunrise there is nothing...
