Brahma Arama Vihara Buddhist Monastery (The Buddhist temple) in Banjar North Bali, near Lovina, is more then just a “tourist attraction”. It is still used, and you can find groups of people staying in the Ashram nearby. It well knows as Vihara Buddha Banjar, is the biggest Buddhist temple in Bali. It is located at a hilly area at Tegehe Village, Desa Banjar, Buleleng Regency about 22 km west of Singaraja City and 10 km from tourist spot Lovina. It is around 88 Km from Bali International Airport, or around 2,5 hours driving from Kuta area. it is around a two-kilometer drive from the hot spring of Banjar through the Banjar Tegeha village. The temple was built by Yayasan Giri Rakketo Maha Tera, with the name of the foundation being taken from its founder Bhiku Giri Rakketo Maha Thera, that was built in the late of 20th century Christian exactly in 1960 and after 1970, it was opened formally in 1973. Originally, the temple was built at the top of the hot spring in Banjar but in 1970, it was relocated and the building expanded to be as it is now.The temple is painted with colorful decorations, it has a very bright orange roof and some Buddha statues it also has Balinese decorative carvings. This shows the solidarity amongst the Balinese people and the Buddhist community who live on Bali. From the outside, the building looks like houses. A gate entrance with typical Balinese carvings, makes one forget that this building is a Buddhist place of worship. Vihara is deliberately designed in accordance with Balinese architecture has a circular pool with fountains, and decorated with some plants, including lotus. The main page is divided into three parts: the stigma, intermediate and main mandala. All three are connected by stairs. At all steps of the kindness shown teachings related to Buddhism. Buddhism is the principle that guides the viewer to interpret, and understand the Brahmavihara Arama. One of them reads indriya samvara which means always supervise / control aggregates. Right of the top you will see the terraced complex has a few praying rooms with golden Buddha’s, and several Buddha statues in the garden. On the highest level of the complex you find a Stupa, allmost like a small version of the Borobudur in Java. In the temple you find references to the Borobudur. There is a vast meditation area and everyday many guests visit this temple. Some of them come to relax and take the opportunity to meditate others to admire the beautiful buildings and surroundings. The area is very peaceful and has panoramic views overlooking Lovina Beach. Visitors are always welcome and are asked to respect the tranquility of the area and the beliefs of the locals by wearing sarong or sash upon entering the temple. Because of its location on the hills, the temple offers a beautiful natural surrounding landscape Buleleng among other fields, the sea and the mountains. It is said that at night, when the sky is dark, the fireflies are found to fly, and beautify the “Borobudur” is. The location away from the noise of a tourist destination of various circles to undergo silence with calm hearts and minds. The area of the monastery has Vipasana space that can be used by anyone wishing to do meditation enlightenment. Every day come to seek spiritual bliss by meditation. During your stay in Lovina, you should take the opportunity to visit this Buddhist temple. Any of the drivers in Lovina will take you there, for the real adventurers amongst you why not hire a motor bike, and take the journey at your own peace. Just turn left at the crossroads in Desa Banjar. The Buddhist temple is not a tourist trap, entrance is free, but donations are welcome. Even the sarongs you may need to enter the temple, you can...

Good day everyone, I am finally back to reviewing after a long time. It is a pleasure to be able to help many people to obtain information about the Brahma Arama Vihara.

  1. Ample parking space, on the roadside. You won't have any trouble finding this building at all. The parking lot is at the back of the Vihara and in front of the Front Office.
  2. The cost range for entry (admission ticket) is only 20,000. If you have a lot of questions or are curious about this temple, you can ask the Front Desk Attendant. Also, do not forget to bring and use a piece of cloth (kamen/saroong) when entering the Vihara area. It must. Even the Front Office can also be rented out.
  3. When you start to enter the depths of the Vihara. You will be greeted with high stairs and beautiful views of some flower gardens and trees, several types of large statues and fish ponds.
  4. Try to bring a camera and do not forget to take pictures.
  5. If you are with a group, please do not be noisy. Because there are some people who pray and practice.
  6. The yard is quite wide and the weather is hot enough, it will definitely make you sweat. So, rest by looking for a cool place or resting area (bale bengong).
  7. The bathrooms were clean enough and the water was flowing fast.
  8. When you are at the height of the gate with high steps. You can see the beauty of the beach, streets and houses of residents with a fairly calm breeze.
  9. In the outdoor parking area, you can see a row of stalls. You can choose where you can fill your stomach :D
  10. Do not forget to always obey the protocol and do not throw trash in the Vihara area.

Here are some pictures that I took by my...

This location is an absolute gem tucked into the hills of Bali. The grounds are stunning, meticulously kept, and radiate a sense of serenity that hits you the moment you arrive. The staff were warm and welcoming, adding to the calm, inviting atmosphere. What stood out most was how peaceful it felt. There were very few tourists, and those who were there moved quietly and respectfully, making the experience feel authentic rather than crowded. The temple provided not only incredible photo opportunities but also the rare chance to slow down and truly absorb the local culture. A must-visit for anyone seeking beauty, stillness, and a genuine cultural connection.

Great place to visit. Little gem in the hills. A great place to visit — a little gem tucked away in the hills. The temple and surrounding grounds are beautiful and well worth the trip. Entry was 35k per person, which felt fair for the experience. If you're feeling adventurous and confident on a motorbike or scooter, consider taking the countryside road from here to the Twin Lakes. Just be cautious: the road is quite narrow, and at one point the asphalt gives way to concrete tracks designed for single wheels. It’s manageable, but definitely not for beginners.

Buddhist temple about 12 min drive from Lovina beach. 35k entry fee I had to wear sarong as I was wearing shorts. Reasonably big complex. Few stairs to climb. There is Stupa at top of the site to the left as you enter. Sign says it was built based upon Borobadur in Jogja in Java. Looks old but says built 1999. Nice gardens. Few buildings under construction. Places to sit and contemplate. I parked car outside ticket office. Cost 5k when I was leaving. It was ok. I was there about 25 mins taking my time. If your Buddhist your probably more interested in site.
