I am reluctant to rate this place as I know it is only going to become more crowded and spoiled with your presence. However, the family who runs the warang are some of the nicest people we have met in all of our travels and, my sincere hope is that they are able to be successful, support their family and contribute meaningfully to their community. The success of their endeavor would mean all these things are possible for them. Some things you should know before heading out: this is not a public beach. This is privately owned, ancestral land, made available to you by The Family, you need to respect this fact and conduct yourselves accordingly. Give more than you take! At a bare minimum clean up after yourselves! Or, even pick up some plastic waste from the beach, show your respect for the land and the people who live on it. Towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, a cold water shower and toilet are available free of charge for your use. All of these things cost money! Tip generously and often. Patronize the restaurant, the food is great the kitchen is clean and the portions are large. Beer is available for sale at reasonable prices. Try and keep your outside food and beverage to a minimum, the restaurant is the largest part of their income from this endeavor. Listen to your hosts advice regarding hazards both on land and in the water. They are local, they care about your safety and they know best. The road down can be hazardous for inexperienced scooter riders, if you feel unsure of your ability, park at the end of the paved Road and walk down to end of the road. Masks snorkels and fins can be rented for a very nominal price.. trust me, it's already cheap don't haggle. If you can take this advice in the spirit in which it is intended, I promise you a safe fulfilling and culturally Rich experience. Balinese hospitality is the best in the world. when you show you can truly respect the needs of your hosts and the lands you pass through, these people cannot do enough for you.Gamet Bay has a very rich marine environment you can expect to see a profusion of different species of fish, corals and Turtles. Reef mantis and dolphins have even been observed on occasion. It is some of the best snorkeling I have seen in Southeast Asia. The path down to the beach is relatively easy except for the most Mobility challenged. The restaurant closes at 6:00 p.m. and you should expect your day to end then or shortly thereafter. Camping is not available except by prior arrangement with the family. This is one of the last, unspoiled Beach environments on the island. You simply cannot find a place like this anywhere else on nusa penida , let's all work together to ensure it...
Read moreHoly smokes! one of the best beaches to date that I have been to, the scenic walk down to the beach over looking the ocean was incredible, and I believe it’s Mount Agung that you can see in the distance back on the mainland. Me and my partner walked there so it was a bit of an adventure down the steep hill but very fun. We didn’t catch the beach on the calmest of days but nonetheless we went for a snorkel and it did not disappoint. There were fish everywhere! All kinds of fish with beautiful vibrate colours similar to the copious amounts of coral that illuminated the seafloor with every colour in the rainbow. And further, with luck on my side I saw my very first sea turtle underwater, an absolutely breathtaking and memorable moment. On top of this the sand was soft and there were two gorgeous little puppies play fighting with each other. Only thing to say is be respectful of the coral and ocean, don’t but stupid and engrave markings or writing on the coral and obviously don’t leave any rubbish. Oh also be careful when there is a strong current and biggish waves when getting into the water as one fall on the reef could end pretty bad and it’s pretty easy to be swept of your...
Read moreAmazing snorkeling spot. Clear water, lots of colorful coral and fishes.
If you go by motor bike like us, ride past the Google location for about 50 meters, you will see a little sign says Gamat beach pointing to the right. Follow the sign and turn right, ride for another 50 meters you will see a narrow dirt road. Park your motor bike to the side and walk down for 10mins you will arrive at the beach. It's free no parking fee. Also, better go when the tight is low, otherwise it's a little tricky to get onto the beach. To snorkel, you will have to swim away from the beach, but never go past all the snorkeling boats. The corals are better on the left side of the beach. Current can be a little strong, not recommended for weak swimmers.
If you go with a snorkeling tour, all skill levels will be fine. Enjoy your time here.
Most people go by boats. We arrived at the beach around 9:30am and didn't see anyone who took the same route. Although there were lots of people in the water already from the...
