What is a beautiful viewpoint is ruined by aggressive villagers. Upon arrival we were met by a man who demanded we pay 100,000 per person to climb the hill. Also 20,000 to park a bike. When I said this is too expensive he became aggressive. 100,000 must be the most expensive ticket fee in Bali! We had drove a long way so we just agreed and was led to a narrow garbage covered track. After climbing halfway and passing multiple beggars we reached what seemed like an official entrance. They wanted to charge us another 25,000 each but when I insisted we had already paid to much they just waved us pass. The climb to the top is worth the reward at the end but the interactions with the locals left a bad feeling. It seems this is a trek for locals and not recommended...

From the bottom (near the lake shore) to the top it takes 2-3hrs and you'll need to pay twice: a park entrance fee (25k IDR) and a Terunyan hike fee (25k IDR). Worth it. If you climb at night, look out across Batur and see all the hundreds of tiny ants with flashlights climbing for the sunrise! Then thank the lord you have almost the whole of Bukit Trunyan to yourself, breathe deeply, and enjoy the fresh air and green...

Starting point: look up for “Pendakian Bukit Trunyan” on Google Maps. You will see farmers around and the entrance to this hike is in between houses. The villagers are nice and helpful. Give them some donations. There will be an entrance fee after 30 mins. I paid 20K/person
