Visiting Pura Dalem Balingkang was an experience both humbling and uplifting — nestled amidst lush green mountain slopes, it presents a truly serene and sacred atmosphere. As one reaches the temple, one is greeted by the whisper of pine-breezes and the rustle of leaves in a quietly held reverence. The temple is perched high in the hills of Kintamani, Bali, surrounded by abundant nature: deep greens, misted ridges and the sense of a place held apart from everyday time. According to the local legend, the temple’s history weaves together two streams of culture: the Balinese royal line of King Sri Haji Jayapangus and a Chinese merchant’s daughter named Kang Cing We (sometimes rendered “Kang Ci Wi”), daughter of the Tionghoa trader Subandar. When the king fell in love and secretly married her, the tale unfolds with divine displeasure, exile and eventually the founding of what became Pura Dalem Balingkang. The name “Balingkang” is understood as a composite of bali (to return) + ing kang (to the one) in some versions — reflecting both the cultural fusion and the sanctuary’s meaning. Inside the grounds you’ll also find the gesture of hospitality: free drinks and snacks provided for visitors and pilgrims. It’s a simple but meaningful way of inviting you to rest, reflect, and contribute a donation if you wish. This generosity makes the place feel all the more welcoming. Because this is a sacred site, the guidance is to respect the rules: wear appropriate traditional attire (for example a sarong and sash), speak softly, and treat the temple space with reverence. Your behaviour matters here almost as much as the view — the spiritual dimension is alive. In sum: If you are seeking a place of green mountain calm, steeped in cultural layers of Bali + China, where you can both wander in nature and sit quietly in temple peace, Pura Dalem Balingkang is well worth the detour. Dress with respect, sip the offered drink, drop a modest donation, and let the...

Other than that, the place is great. It has this very calming vibe, maybe due to its isolation. The view is very nice too. There's 5 praying spot from the most outside temple to utama mandala (innermost side). The way up to utama mandala is steep to, be careful. Pregnant woman, nursing woman, and children under 2 years old also prohibited from entering the utama mandala. Other than that it was fine.
On side note, if you choose the shorter road (the longer road is closer to the batur lake) you will pass a field full of giant rocks remnant of the last batur mountain explosion. It makes a really great photo spot. Just mind the terrain and you are set. Just, if you choose this road get ready to wash your car. It will return with a very fetching white dust layer. You'll see when you actually get...
