Religion: Unknown. Main features: Single temple. State of preservation: Mound. Description: Candi Abang must have been a huge temple, but it is today reduced to a 6m-high heap of bricks without any shape. Some parts of the structure were apparently in stone, as testified by a stone base still lying a few meters away from the temple remains. Given its very bad state of preservation, it is impossible to draw any plan of the temple. A test pit revealed remains of a pit and a depression is still visible at its centre, suggested the presence of a temple pit or a stūpa inner chamber. According to archaeological report the building stood in the middle of a courtyard covered with bricks (Laporan kegiatan Abang, Sentono and Jepang 2000: 3). Inscriptions: A short inscription has been found on the site and is dated 872 A.D. (Laporan kegiatan Abang, Sentono and...
Read moreA hidden gem that I found in Yogyakarta. I came here by jogging in the morning. There are parking fees for bikes, motorcycles, and cars, but the entrance to the place is free. There are 2 entrances, which are from the west & from the east. I entered from the west when I arrived. As I didn't expect, you have to climb for 5 minutes to get to the area from the bottom, which can be quite challenging & you have to be careful. As I get to the top, I can see the 'temple' which looks like a mini hill, as it is believed that plants & grass growed overtime on the bricks made. I also see the East entrance which turns out to be a lot easier to get to than from the west side.
Overall, a great place if you're looking for a hidden gem & a place you've never seen before. But it is kinda...
Read moreThe place was known as good place to watch sunset (maybe sunrise as well). The access was hidden and it is hard to get there. You have to climb a steep slope and it can get very slippery as well. No stair or railing. The parking space was small, barely fit for a car. The temple itself was underwhelming. It looks like a pile of brick covered by dirt forming a hill. Even the brick (which was the temple itself i assume) was dug out, leaving the temple a hole every here and there. The size was not so small. Maybe about 40sqm, with 3-4m height. But the place in general is quite pretty and peaceful. You can feel wind breeze pleasantly if it was not very hot during the day. When night come, the place was so dark because there is no lighting. Making it a good place to...
