Before we did the tour, we honestly thought this could've been something out of our comfort zone, as none of us 3 has ever been this close to the nature. We had imagined we would miss the internet and other modern comforts. But oh...we were completely wrong! The klotok boat is basic, but is very comfortable and kept very clean by our amazing crew. Our crew consists of: Eko (a very fun, flexible, helpful and capable guide. He speaks both Indonesian and English ), Ibu Nur (a gentle cook who spoiled us with delicious meals and snacks), Pak Adi (capable and amazing captain), Pak Jen (the hardworking assistant who never stops working to make things run smoothly on the boat). The crew made this tour an absolute success with all their hard work taking care of us at all times and catering to our wishes. What do you get on a klotok boat: Good food: 3 main meals/day, with fresh ingredients and good varieties, and in more than enough quantities. We also appreciate it a lot that they always provided us with afternoon snacks (fried banana's, sweet cold tea,....) after a long day activity. There were also some big gallons of mineral drinking water we could use all the time. They also observe your dietary wishes. Western toilet and shower: in spite of lack of hot water, the shower works really well, and there was enough clean water for our daily showers. The bathroom is very basic, but is kept very clean. Bring your own toiletries though. However they provide enough toilet paper rolls. 'Sofa bed' : our beds were basically a pile of sofa cushions used as matrasses at night, under a mosquito net. Not the best matrasses, but certainly good enough in the context. They also provide a blanket and pillow. No airconditioning, but lots of fresh natural breeze and jungle noises: trust us, you'd sleep very well with these! No signal for your mobile: not for a call, nor for the internet! We were worried about this, but we were proven very wrong. Our activities were such fun, that we didn't miss the 'external world' at all. It was in fact very relaxing to be 'disconnected'. Possibility to charge your phones: to prevent phone damage due to some generator peaks, you'd better charge the power bank instead of directly charging the phone. Lots of possibilities to see wildlife in the jungle: we were blessed by many possibilities to see various wildlife.

Why we're happy we've chosen the 4D/3N Local Guide Orangutan Tour: Smooth and efficient communication: we booked the tour initially in 2020, but due to the pandemics, we had to re-schedule it. The Local Guide was always very efficient, flexible and honest in their handling of this rescheduling. Our contact persons (Sal and Nur Haryanto) were always available to handle the administration and answer our questions per e-mails or Whatsapp messages. Capable caring honest crew: let's be honest, if you're in the jungle of Kalimantan, far from the outside world, you'd want to be surrounded by good people you can trust completely to take care of your needs and safety. Well, the crew we had, fulfilled this outstandingly! They were also very flexible about the itineraries: they adapted everything, where possible of course. Smooth handling of administration: once you've made your booking, you'll get clear instructions about the (down)payment (via paypal, and then on site at arrival), local contact person,.... Cost is all included: the tour payment you pay is all included. No other (hidden) cost. Whether you leave some tip for the crew, is up to your decision. If you can, please book at least the 4D/3N tour, as 2 full days are very comfortable to be able to arrange the activities. Don't forget to calculate the possibility of bad weather, because you're gonna be in...

After doing extensive research on Tanjung Puting National Park I found that you must enter the park with a tour guide. You will have to choose a guide company and they will purchase all permits needed for you to enter the park. Thank God for our guide (Deny), we wouldn't have been able to have the experience we did without his knowledge. We booked a 3 day 2 night boat tour through Tanjung Puting National Park through Jenie Subaru (whom we found on several traveler sites, and the Lonely Planet guide book).

We flew into Jakarta International Airport and had to take a smaller plane to Pangkalan Bun where we took a taxi to Kumai to get out our boat to enter Tanjung Puting National Park.

Once our tour of Tanjung Puting started our guide Deny immediately started pointing out wildlife along the river also educating us on how Palm Oil and illegal logging is continuing to destroy Tanjung National Park, but that a group called The Orangutan Green team was buying land in efforts to preserve the Park and Wildlife living there. Before reaching the first of the three orangutan feeding stations set up by Tanjung Puting National Park we saw Proboscis monkeys (only found in Borneo), Macaques, Silver Langer,  and several birds that I cannot recall but our guide was more than knowledgeable about.

Upon arriving at the first feeding station I was excited to see orangutans for the first time. The second feeding station was closer than the first aid more orangutans showed up to the feeding site. Deny (our guide) brought us to see the inner forest and orangutans in their natural environment after each feeding site. Camp leaky was the last station and by far my favorite. The hike after the feeding station at Camping Leeky was the most beautiful. We saw the beautiful nature of the forest, plants (which Deny pointed out, named, and knew backgrounds about) , beautiful moss, snakes, snake holes, and also even got to see some orangutans in their natural environment just hanging out in trees doing normal orangutan stuff which is precisely what we wanted to see. I couldn't have been happier. We skipped any night hiking to see the nocturnal wildlife in the park because honestly I was far too exhausting from the day adventures but next time I'll go!

We slept on a mattress on the top of the boat under a provided mosquito net! Listening to the sounds of the wildlife before falling asleep was amazing and being woken up by a Rhinoceros Hornbill flying over head and opening my eyes to see a troop of Proboscis monkeys in the trees above was pretty epic.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and made us feel safe. There were also several park workers at every feeding station. All and all the Park is amazing and I'd definitely recommend seeing this before you no longer have the ability to. I'd also recommend booking your tour of Tanjung National Park through Jenie Subaru and requesting Deny as your guide simply because he made our...

Tanjung Puting National Park is a captivating gem nestled within the lush jungles of Borneo, offering an unforgettable adventure for nature enthusiasts and wildlife aficionados alike. During my recent visit, I was enchanted by the park's diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and commitment to conservation.

One of the highlights of my journey was encountering the iconic inhabitants of Tanjung Puting: the majestic orangutans. Trekking through the park's dense rainforest, I was fortunate to witness these magnificent creatures swinging effortlessly through the trees, feeding, and caring for their young. The park's rehabilitation centers provide a glimpse into the tireless efforts to protect and rehabilitate orangutans, contributing to their conservation.

Moreover, Tanjung Puting is home to a myriad of other fascinating species, including proboscis monkeys, gibbons, macaques, and an array of exotic birds. Cruising along the park's winding rivers aboard a traditional klotok boat allowed me to observe these creatures in their natural habitat, offering unparalleled opportunities for wildlife photography and observation.

Beyond its rich biodiversity, Tanjung Puting mesmerizes visitors with its untouched natural beauty. Towering trees, winding rivers, and verdant vegetation create a picturesque backdrop for exploration and adventure. Camping under the starlit sky amidst the sounds of the jungle was a surreal experience, immersing me in the tranquility and serenity of nature.

Furthermore, the park's commitment to sustainable tourism and conservation is commendable. Local guides and park rangers are passionate about preserving the park's delicate ecosystem, educating visitors about the importance of conservation efforts and responsible tourism practices.

In conclusion, Tanjung Puting National Park is a haven for nature lovers, offering a harmonious blend of breathtaking landscapes, unparalleled wildlife encounters, and a commitment to conservation. Whether you're seeking adventure, tranquility, or a deeper connection with nature, a visit to Tanjung Puting promises an enriching and...
