This old train station is have a historic value. Build by colonial to transport troops and nature resources. But now this place become a tourist venue. Many attractive from administrators to guide. What i like from this place are the weather are very cozy and cold, because located on the big hill (sorry i forget on how many meters above the sea level) And also this venue still have original steam train which is still working at this time, completely with the car. Not only 1 steam locomotive but they also have more than 3. This venue has also mini trains which only use for short duration. To reach this venue is very easy. Just put “stasiun ambarawa” into your digital maps, it will heading automatically go in here. Just be careful, because located on the mountain check and double check your vehicle before reach this place. Recorded many accidents happened in this area, because brake not function, driver are sleeping 😴, empty gasoline, fog. Just take care especially when rain season come. And fyi the best time go here is in the morning. Why? Because the road and venue are still empty. Don’t forget to eat local food from this subs-district and also king of fruit (DURIAN)

It is known to local as Museum Kereta Ambarawa. The museum used to be train station during colonial times until defuncted on early 1970s. The station was restored and transformed into a railway museum. You can learn about the history of Indonesia transportation especially train in here. There are a lot of old photograph of train, station and etc. The Museum also collected several steam locomotives, some are still operated as heritage trail for tourists. They also restored some old train halte in some village and moved to the museum. You can also take the heritage trail with the old loco. If i not mistaken, there are 3 times schedule everyday which the last one heading on 2 pm. The place is clean, the toilet is clean too. There are also a waiting room if you just accompany and choose not to enter the museum. The entrance ticket is very cheap too but you need to pay additional fee if you want to take the heritage trail. Since it is located in the highland, it can be very cold in rainy season so dont forget to bring your jacket. As long as i remember there isnt any cafetaria there but you can buy food outside the museum. There are plenty of snack stalls outside.

it's a museum filled with old trains and some trivia about the development of train infrastructure in Indonesia. The main attraction is, I think, an old timey tourist train, the train trip cost about 50IDR. Lots of parking, toilet is clean, the whole place could use more trees, but pretty great nevertheless. I don't think I see a cafeteria, but you can find food peddler around the museum easily. The train trip is usually packed, so you might wanna come early. But even then, you usually will still have to wait for the train trip. The good news is Fort Willem is located just 5 minutes drive a way, if you're looking to do something while waiting. One beef I had with the museum is, since it's doing old timey theme on the building and the train, they should have went all out and had everybody dressed like old dutch train station staff, used old timey money and had old dutch food - such a wasted potential. All in all, quite a good museum, and if you're coming in from semarang, an overnight stay at the Umbul Sidomukti, after your visit to the museum is highly recommended.

Golden tip: how to get a ticket for antique train (the tickets are quite limited!!) Many visitors, either local or international, are disappointed since they arrived bybtge time all the tickets had already been sold. In holiday or peak season, be there as soon as possible, I suggest you be there before 8am. Based on further information from the parking guy, people usually take queue since 7am. If you were a big fan of old trains, I'm prety sure that you would enjoy the one-hour trip, Ambarawa-Tuntang-Ambarawa. You could enjoy the remnants of the past.

7-8am: get your vehicle parked. Buy the entrance and train tickets, Go across the museuam, there is a local market, Pasar Lanang (Lanang market).just right across the museum.

Ask people where you can buy "nasi pecel/bubur koyor/nasi rames/gendar pecel/soto" The stalls are inside the market.

That's how local people start the day. One portion may cost you 3000 rupiahs while the fried tofu/fried tempeh cost 1000rupiahs.

Fyi, Nasi pecel: rice with veggie and sweet (and lil bit hot) peanut sauce Gendar pecel: same with above, but with rice cake instead Nasi rames: rice with tempeh, veggie, noodle Soto: soupy dish, one of the staple delicacies of Indonesia.

My grandma's house is approximately 5 mins from the museum, fyi.

Have fun in...
