Don't be fooled, this is no National Park. There is absolutely nothing being done that is protecting this natural wonder by the government. As a tourist you pay 150k to enter compared to 5k for locals. 30x more, for what? The whole island is a plastic waste tip. There is plastic on every end of the island and in every inch of the water. You can't escape it and there are no education or prevention methods set up by the government. All of the waste on the island stays on the island and is DUMPED into landfill. Honestly so saddening that such a beautiful place is being ruined. None of the trash gets shipped back to land or recycled and a large proportion is also burnt on the side of the roads. Locals need to wake up to their plastic consumption. I saw a lot of local tourist simply throwing trash into the water. Are they just stupid or ignorant? Saddens me so much. The coral is also destroyed and bleached beyond repair. The island has unfortunately been destroyed by humans and there is seemingly no hope. Profit once again the driving force to exploit our natural landscapes. I absolutely loved this island but won't be coming back as it saddens me too much to see the...
Read moreWent here for a camping trip on late June 2018. We were camping at Annora and Tanjung Gelam. Both places are beautiful yet kinda spooky at night, especially at Tanjung Gelam.
Due to unfriendly wheather condition, we could only explored the west side of Karimunjawa. The snorkling activity wasn't that good because of the wave and strong current. However, the underwater scenery is amazing. The corals are beautiful.
Had a quite unpleasant experiences when we cruising with Siginjai from and to Karimunjawa. It was a peak season, so the ship was really crowded. Coulnd't get a good spot to sit. As result, it was an uncomfortable 4 hours trip.
Tips: If you prefer to cruise with Siginjai, you'd better come early to get a good spot to sit. Visit Karimunjawa at low season. Consider the wheather condition before visiting Karimunjawa. I heard that the east side of Karimunjawa is far better than...
