Gedung Juang 45 Bekasi, is a government property, which has function as historical museum to remember freedom fighter. It was built in two stages, in 1906 and in 1925. Initially, in front Gedung Juang, the yard was a beautiful fruits garden, many of which were planted with mango trees which at that time is the first for Tambun and Bekasi. Landlord Kouw Oen Huy, controlled this old building until 1942. Subsequently, from 1943 until 1945, the historic building was under the supervision of the Japanese government. The Japanese army also used this old building as the center in colonizing Indonesia. During the struggle for independence in 1945, the building which was located on land about 1000 meters was taken over by the Indonesian National Committee (KNI) to serve as the Jatinegara Regency Office. At that time, Bekasi was made a defensive front area, so the building also functioned as the Indonesian Combat Command Center in facing the Allied Army which had just finished the second world war. This building has monumental meaning as the enslavement and exchange of prisoners of war took place. The location of the prisoner exchange itself was carried out near Bekasi River which is now not far from the Bekasi pawnshop. Many Japanese soldiers died being slaughtered and dumped in Bekasi River, making every year Japanese soldiers always sow flowers at times that stretch this Bekasi city. In exchange for prisoners, RI fighters by the Dutch were repatriated to Bekasi, and Dutch prisoners by Indonesian fighters were sent back to Jakarta via a train which was just behind this building. This building had been used as the Indonesian Military Command Center during the physical struggle, therefore it had always been the target of firing aircraft and Dutch cannons. But, lots of weirdness in this building. When the Dutch cannon was dropped on the building, it turned out that the cannon did not explode and only damaged a small part of the building. Therefore the building is still save until now. We can visit this building to remember Bekasi...
