Gua Maria Sendangsono — Attraction in Kalibawang

Pilgrims site, a place to find serenity, to refresh the soul, to meditation and self reflection. Came with all burden, distraction, and life problems to pray and hand it to creators of life. Far away from crowded, life frenzied, such a quiet place to refresh our soul and mind. Beauty and harmony can be seen from the architecture form, all came with great imagination to shape every inch, compotition and structure. Just relief and fresh everytime visiting this place. Every corner representing the art itself, touching and seeing it more like the source of fountain of life. Peoples from many background, domestic and international tourist, use to came for pray and attend the mass or just to admire it. Some to take a part for rituals the Passion of the Christ, visitors also providing with free Holy Water in plastic bottle to take away but consider the place need source to maintain its operation and preserve so it will be respectful if peoples might be spend some coin at collection box near it. Many facility are available, gazebos, toilets, restaurant, inn, souvenirs shop, local stall, grocery store, snack, ect. But mostly of restos in this place selling pork dish with loxal taste. Parking area also very large, located near the enterance gate. People also can park near the 2nd gate wich is the Quiet Zone before entering inner site but only for motorcycle not for car. All the way to 2nd gate there's locals offering their merchendise like neckles, rosary, statue, holy waters, bracelet, ect. Road to the location was wort to try, it start with good and wide road condition and end with tight careless roads that only fit for 1 car. Beware for downhill and uphill, curved path and weather condition.Not too many sign board to location, especially at rainy day the terrain condition need more attention to pass. It looks untouched by the goverment or for else reason. But don't worry for the locals was friendly and willing to help for troubles on the way. This place free to enter no need...

Sendangsono adalah tempat ziarah Goa Maria yang terletak di Desa Banjaroyo, Kecamatan Kalibawang, Kabupaten Kulon Progo, DI Yogyakarta. Gua Maria Sendangsono dikelola oleh Paroki St. Maria Lourdes di Promasan, barat laut Yogyakarta. Tempat ini ramai dikunjungi peziarah dari seluruh Indonesia pada bulan Mei dan bulan Oktober. Selain berdoa, pada umumnya para peziarah mengambil air dari sumber. Mereka percaya bahwa air tersebut dapat menyembuhkan penyakit. Catatan terkait memperlihatkan, Sendangsono awalnya merupakan tempat pemberhentian (istirahat sejenak) para pejalan kaki dari Kecamatan Borobudur Magelang ke Kecamatan Boro (Kulon Progo), atau sebaliknya. Tempat itu banyak dikunjungi karena keberadaan sendang (mata air) yang muncul di antara dua pohon sono. Kesejukan dan kenyamanan tempat itu ternyata juga dimanfaatkan untuk bertapa oleh sejumlah rohaniwan Buddha dalam rangka menyucikan dan menyepikan diri. Nilai spiritualistik muncul dan menguat seiring dengan adanya kepercayaan yang didasarkan pada suatu legenda bahwa tempat itu juga dihuni Dewi Lantamsari dan putra tunggalnya, Den Baguse Samija. Dari situ bisa dilihat bahwa sebenarnya nilai rohani Sendangsono sudah terbangun sebelum Gereja Katolik berkarya di tempat itu. Keberadaan Sendangsono tak luput dari peran Romo Van Lith SJ, rohaniawan Belanda yang lama tinggal di Pulau Jawa. Hal itu juga menandakan bahwa Sendangsono tidak bisa dilepaskan dari lingkaran sejarah Gereja Katolik di Pulau Jawa mengingat Romo Van Lith sendiri merupakan salah satu rohaniwan yang menyebarkan ajaran Katolik di Pulau Jawa.Sendangsono terletak beberapa kilometer dari jalan raya, masuk ke jalan yang lebih kecil. Di beberapa tempat terdapat jalan yang sedikit rusak dan turun-naik cukup tinggi, namun masih bisa dilalui kendaraan roda empat. Memasuki jalan menuju lokasi, di kiri kanan terdapat penjual barang-barang rohani. Peziarah dapat membeli lilin atau jerigen atau botol berbentuk patung Bunda Maria untuk menyimpan air Sendangsono. Komplek ziarah Sendangsono luasnya hampir 1 hektar. Dari pintu gerbang masuk, peziarah akan melewati jalan salib besar. Jalan salib besar ini berawal di gereja yang ada di bawah, beberapa ratus meter sebelum lokasi parkir Sendangsono ada jalan menuju ke bawah yang petunjuknya meskipun kurang jelas dan kecil tertulis gereja. Dari gereja inilah asal jalan salib lama tersebut. Jarak jalan salib ini sekitar 1 kilometer. Di sebelah kanan dibangun jalan salib baru yang lebih kecil dalam arti jarak satu perhentian ke perhentian lain sangat dekat hanya beberapa langkah saja. Diorama-diorama kisah sengsara Yesus Kristus berbentuk kecil saja dan dinaungi semacam atap. Di akhir jalan salib, akan memasuki pelataran yang di tengahnya di bagian bawah terdapat keran air untuk mengambil air dari mata air Sendangsono, yang terletak di sebelah atasnya, sumber mata airnya yang dibentuk seperti...
