Pura Lempuyang Luhur — Attraction in Kecamatan Karangasem

Basically, it's your average Hindu temple, just that at this one, you can have your picture taken standing/sitting/jumping in of the arches of "heaven's gate", with only the sky beyond. The reflection you see in most pictures is not from a body of water, but a mirror held close to the camera. Reality is a lot less impressive. It's well organized though, instead of having to wait in a queue, you're assigned a number and they call them up one after another. No pushing and shoving and rushing to secure your place in line here, and they'll take your picture with the reflection for free (there's a donation box, but no obligation). What's really nice though is the view, the temple is situated on top of a steep hill and provides a stunning view of the mountains around - if the weather is clear. If it's not, the whole temple can be in the clouds, which is also kind of cool, but you won't see the mountains at all and pictures will be foggy. As the road up the hill is very steep and narrow, you are required to leave your scooter/car at a parking space at the foot of the hill. From there you take a shuttle bus. They run continuously, almost no waiting. The shuttle is 45k IDR both ways, the entrance fee to the temple is 55k (2023). If you're too lazy to walk the rest of the way, you can hire a moto from the shuttle drop off point for an additional 10k; it's only a couple of minutes walk up the hill though.
