I was really excited to visit this place, but upon arrival I was immediately disappointed as there is trash all over the beach. Plastic cups, food wrappers and even empty oil bottles. When in the water not uncommon for trash to come brushing up alongside you. It’s sad because the beach itself is beautiful and has so much potential. The sand is white and super soft when met by the water, almost like silt or clay. There was a small stretch in the middle near one of the only restaurants that it seems match they try to pick up a bit, definitely not enough though. Someone mentioned that it’s not peak season now and that maybe it’s cleaned up more during tourist season, but I don’t think that’s any excuse as how can the locals be okay living like this either? I understand it’s an impoverished area, but it costs nothing to clean up after yourselves. I saw one French family clean up the area in which they were trying to enjoy the beach which was nice, I commend their efforts, but this should be a goal of the community and local government together. Maybe I’m being ignorant and there’s some other factor I’m missing, sure hope it improves though because it’s a really bad look and I don’t like leaving a review like this for an area which relies on tourism, based on the overly positive reviews which I was drawn in by I felt it’s necessary to tell the real story of what it’s like here. I worry that the youth growing up here will just be accepting of this behavior instead of learning how to take care of their environment. Hopefully they learn to treat this place better as it is...
Read moreI visited for a week. It’s just ok, but boring. I really should have booked only 2 or 3 nights max, and actually I regret coming to Kei islands at all - too much traveling involved for such little reward.
A ridiculous amount of plastic garbage on the beach never gets cleaned up. If you sit on one of the beach benches you will asked to pay a fee. The sand is fine, but no snorkeling here. Stingrays roam the shallow waters. Sunsets are nice tho. Overall there is nothing spectacular about this place.
On weekends, especially Sundays, it seems everyone from the city comes here. It is chaos and noisy and traffic and beyond crowded. Best avoid during these days.
Open air karaokes dot the beach, and you will not be able to avoid the noise at any time. Even at 4:30 AM any night of the week you may still hear music thumping away while you are desperately trying to sleep.
There are only two average cafes here which might appeal to foreign visitors, but it’s only the usual Indonesian foods.
If you choose to stay at one of the cottages, beware of mm-thin walls where you can hear EVERY little noise from the...
Read moreGreat beach with soft white sands. Since I came in when the weather is not good, it still recommended but it will be hard to find food. You need to pay IDR15k for ticket entrance eventhough you stay in cottage there, well maybe it will be better to be informed at the first place.
There also some cottages there, in average IDR350K-500K/night. In the holiday season, makesure you book in advance because it is a bit limited room. Mostly they only have two rooms only.
The only dissapointing event is when you being charged by sitting at the bungalow in the place where you ordered the food. Hahaha. They costs us IDR50k for having lunch there (outside the food cost). So, just make sure to the restaurant you will not be changed for sitting there. Or, is it normal there? Not sure.
It is highly recommended to visit in the best season like in...
