After hours of technical climbing, we emerged onto the summit ridge of Carstensz Pyramid. The clouds that had been our constant companions parted just enough to reveal our position – perched at 4,884 meters (16,024 feet) on the highest point between the Himalayas and the Andes. The weather, as if honoring the magnitude of the moment, gifted us with perfect conditions: cloudy but remarkably still, without the fierce winds that often guard this remote summit.
We’ve conquered our sixth of the Seven Summits, a journey that has pushed us to our limits on the highest peaks of each continent. Carstensz Pyramid stands apart. While other summits might be higher or colder, none match the technical complexity of this limestone giant. The climbing that brought us here – the vertical walls, the exposed traverses, the delicate balance of technical skills and high-altitude endurance – makes this achievement feel different.
Standing on the summit, we couldn't help but reflect on the five-year wait to even attempt this climb. The mountain's closure since 2019 had made this moment even more precious, more significant.
