Some old large houses, closed. The term “museum” does not mean, that here regular or permanently objects of interest are exposed – not historical artefacts, no art at all and nothing culturally interesting. The partially nice buildings are closed and might be used from time to time for any gathering of “old culture societies”. (Maybe some things in smaller rooms on the side). This is a pity: Sambas has an over 1400 years old history of Dayak-time, numerous Hindu and Buddhist settlements (called “kingdoms” here) since 7th century and at least one “Old-Sambas-Kingdom” preceding the Sultanate from 1671 itself. So many objects and adequate explanation could be presented to both the local and the visiting public. Last, but not least, after the terrible Sambas Massacre in 1999 (euphemistically diminished to Sambas "riots"), Sambas in the 21st century really needs a new, self-critcal awareness of its history.
