Museum Balla Lompoa merupakan salah satu bangunan bersejarah yang ada di wilayah Kerajaan Goa. Balla Lompoa adalah salah satu Istana untuk Kerajaan Goa. Kata Balla Lompoa berasal dari bahasa makassar yang berarti Rumah yang Besar. Mengapa dikatakan Rumah yang Besar? Padahal ada bangunan yang lebih besar disampingnya? Balla Lompoa sebenarnya memiliki pemaknaan tersendiri sehingga dikatakan seperti itu. Disebut Balla Lompoa karena didalamnya terdapat "Kallompoang" yang artinya Kebesaran. Kebesaran seorang raja. Itulah alasan mengapa disebut sebagai Balla Lompoa.
Setelah Raja Goa ke 36, Sultan Abdul Kadir Aididdin Andi Idjo Karaengta Lalolang (Bupati Pertama di Kabupaten Gowa) wafat, Istana Balla Lompoa kemudia dijadikan Museum Balla Lompoa.
Kawasan Museum Balla Lompoa juga mempunyai Istana Tamalate yang sering digunakan sebagai gedung serba guna.
