Kabupaten Raja Ampat adalah salah satu kabupaten di provinsi Papua Barat, Indonesia. Ibukota kabupaten ini terletak di Waisai. Sebagai daerah kepulauan, satu-satunya transportasi antar pulau dan penunjang kegiatan masyarakat Raja Ampat adalah angkutan laut. Demikian juga untuk menjangkau Waisai, ibu kota kabupaten. Bila menggunakan pesawat udara, lebih dulu menuju Kota Sorong. Setelah itu, dari Sorong perjalanan ke Waisai dapat dilanjutkan dengan transportasi laut dan udara. Di tinjau dari sisi sejarah, Kepulauan Raja Ampat di abad ke 15 merupakan bagian dari kekuasaan Kesultanan Tidore, sebuah kerajaan besar yang berpusat di Kepulauan Maluku. Untuk menjalankan pemerintahannya, Kesultanan Tidore ini menunjuk 4 orang Raja lokal untuk berkuasa di pulau Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati dan Misool yang merupakan 4 pulau terbesar dalam jajaran kepulauan Raja Ampat sampai sekarang ini. Istilah 4 orang Raja dalam yang memerintah di gugusan kepulauan itulah yang menjadi awal dari nama Raja Ampat. Kabupaten yang memperingati Hari Ulang Tahun setiap tanggal 9 Mei ini sekarang merupakan sebuah Kabupaten di Propinsi Papua Barat yang dimekarkan dari Kabupaten Sorong pada tahun 2003.
