(Australian tourist review)
Highly recommend going, was really worth it. I really enjoyed my time here.
Transport and logistics things that might help other travellers: Can totally grab to and from the place, when leaving, you might have to wait 10-15 minutes for a grab driver to accept your request, but I was able to leave a-okay entry ticket cost was 200,000 (I went on weekday) just to get to the crater at the top you can totally do the walk up to the crater at the top, takes around 30-40 minutes, I found it quite a nice walk, just follow the road. No need to get a car or a motorbike up once you’re at the top, enjoy the sights. If you’re keen, go to the very far right, and they provide a tour to the back of the crater. This side has unimpeded views, and I honestly thought it was very worth it. It was 50,000 per person, I bumped into some French travellers who also wanted to do it, we all paid 50,000 each. (Will attach photos of the differences) the hawkers/peddlers are also happy to help you take photos if you ask nicely, recommend confirming with them that there is no charge before you ask however I really enjoyed the Domas Crater too, I thought it was really nice. I however had to pay 150,000 for a guide to bring me down to Domas crater. I originally thought this was a scam (halfway up as you’re climbing, you’ll be asked if you want to go. You can also go from the top as well). I till now, don’t know if this was a scam or not. When I asked at the tourist information desk at the top crater, she insisted I had to take a guide. However, the path is relatively easy to find, and I trust that one could easily make their way down their themselves bring some tissues/towel to wipe your feet off after soaking your feet at the Domas crater foot springs I didn’t buy a mask on the way in, I didn’t feel a need for it. A lot of the hawkers and peddlers at the top of the crater weren’t wearing one either. at the top crater, there are stores to buy food and water if you forget...

I don't understand what's the "good" reviews about this crater.
You simply drive up and view it from the parking area (with hefty entrance fee! 200k for weekdays for foreigners!
Our driver did a poor job of reminding us of these ANNOYING AND WOULDNT SHUT UP "GUIDES". In fact, somehow they seemed to know each other and are friends! These "guides" holding bracelets, necklaces, obviously to sell, will initially tell you that it's all free. That they just want to help and proceed to help us with the steps (I was there with my elderly parents, so they "helped" my parents).
There are 4/5 of them following us around despite me telling them that we just want peace and enjoy the view. But gosh they just wont shut up, and kept rushing us and pressuring us to go from spot to spot to take pic. I gave up. So I tried to make full use of 1 of them, by asking him a lot questions and practically making him my expensive tour guide. Because I knew i was already trapped and scammed. So why not make full use of it?
We then decided to just give them tips of 50k which they rejected! Claiming they can't accept tip, must buy stuff from them. fine. They charged crazy expensive for these bracelets. Tbh I just paid because I want some peace and quiet. There goes my 250k for 2 bracelets.
But it doesn't end there. The other 3/4 then practically surrounding me and kept asking me to buy from them. That they are only finding "rezeki", their family no food to eat. Look, I sympathesize but geez, leave me alone dude.
They continue to guilt trip me until I called back my driver and left there ASAP.
Honestly, even without these scammers around. I also will not recommend this place. Its...
Read moreThis place is a must if you are visiting Bandung. The last time I was here was about 30 years ago. Now bringing my own family with kids, the view is still incredible. You have to pay an entrance fee and the difference between local and foreign visitors are exponential. I think it’s 20k IDR for locals and 200k IDR for tourists! ($7USD) once you get to the top of the top you are greeted by loads of vendors. They have official pass and they will stick to you like glue. They also have with them souvenirs and trinkets for you to buy. Negotiations and bargaining is recommended. They can be helpful and assist you to take pictures and offer an insight to the crater. Once you buy their offering they will leave you alone. But like the hydra, you cut one off and two more will appear 😂 Tips for souvenir shopping: expect to pay 40% less of what they offer. If the price does not meet your expectations, walk away. The smell of sulphur is strong and it may sting your eyes and the view is weather dependent. There are many activities to partake at an extra cost. You can ride a horse and even go on a guided walk to the lower part of the crater to boil an egg and witness the sheer heat from the crater. Overall it’s still a nice place to visit and you won’t have to spend the whole day there. If you’re coming from Bandung I’d recommend adding a place that’s on route to this venue like Dago Dream park or Lembang Farmhouse, these attractions offer unique experiences with very “instagrammable” spots to wow your followers. There are nice eateries and cafes along the way as well. While driving up, we saw a few establishments offering lodging. The Bandung region is now huge with “glamping” I have read somewhere that they’re quite...
