It is not yet known exactly who built Eram Garden for the first time, and for this reason, the exact date of its construction has not been recorded. The only available document regarding Bagh Eram is mentioning it in some travelogues, based on which it can be attributed to at least the 10th and 11th centuries of Hijri. In addition, the construction date of this garden is considered to be the Seljuk period; Because at that time, Atabek Qaracha, the ruler of Fars, had built the throne garden and several other gardens in Shiraz, and this garden may have been built at his request. Eram Garden existed during Al-Injo, Al-Muzaffar and Gurkanian eras; Although there is no information about it; Except for one of Hafez's sonnets, from which it can be understood that Al-Injo had control over the garden. Later, Eram Garden was taken over by Al Muzaffar sultans. There is no accurate information about the condition of the garden in the Safavid era, and only the writings of foreign travelers mention the splendor and prosperity of the gardens of that era. In any case, from Safavid onwards, all the gardens of Iran, including the gardens of Shiraz, develop and prosper, and the Eram garden is restored. From the end of the Zandiye period, the garden was in the possession of Qashqai clan leaders for about 75 years, and they used it as their seat of rule and built a mansion in this garden. After that, during the time of Naser al-Din Shah, the foundation of another mansion was laid in the garden, which took several years to build. According to the evidence, the main building of the garden existed until the era of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar, and when Haj Nasir al-Mulk Shirazi bought the garden, he apparently built the current mansion of the garden based on it. 6 stone inscriptions can be seen on the eastern facade of the building, which have different dates and the name of Nasir al-Mulk can be seen in them.
Finally, Eram Garden is owned by Shah Pahlavi's wife, who hands it over to Shiraz University and is used for the reception palace. Since the garden building was damaged due to natural factors, major repairs were made between 1345 and 1350 and a stone wall with an iron fence was built instead of the garden wall. Besides, restoration of decorations of various parts such as mirror work and ceiling paintings of rooms and verandas are on the agenda. In addition to the reconstruction of the garden area that was destroyed, a very large land will be added to the Eram garden.
The beautiful and pleasant Eram garden, which is currently at the disposal of Shiraz University, has an area of about 110,000 square meters and is often covered with orange and cypress trees. In the 35th meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on July 6, 2010, the Eram Garden of Shiraz was registered in the World Heritage List.

Read moreBoth the building and the garden were built during the middle of thirteenth century by the Ilkhanate or a paramount chief of the Qashqai tribes of Pars. The original layout of the garden however, with its quadripartite Persian Paradise garden structure was most likely laid in eleventh century by the Seljuqs, and was then referred to as Bāgh-e Shāh ("The emperor's garden" in Persian) and was much less complicated or ornamental.[1] Cornelius de Bruyn, a traveller from the Netherlands, wrote a description of the gardens in the eighteenth century.
Over its 150 years the structure has been modified, restored or stylistically changed by various participants. It was one of the properties of noble Shiraz Qavami Family. The building faces south along the long axis. It was designed by a local architect, Haji Mohammad Hasan[2]. The structure housed 32 rooms on two stories, decorated by tiles with poems from the poet Hafez written on them. The structure underwent renovation during the Zand and Qajar dynasties.
In 1965, Sir Denis Wright, a British ambassador in Iran, was invited by the Chancellor of Shiraz University, Asadollah Alam, to a party in Eram Garden for Princess Alexandra of the Oglivy.[1] The compound came under the protection of Pahlavi University during the Pahlavi era, and was used as the College of Law. The building also housed the Asia Institute.
