"Sherwana Castle also known as Shirwanah Castle was built by King Mohammed Jaff and is located in Kalar, Kurdistan. It was build in 1734 and it still stands till this day. It is home to the Jaff Family, and can be visited for travelers. Jaff is a Kurdish Political last name that has been used for more than a thousand years and was given to its most important leaders and to Kings of Kurdistan. Kaher Jaff born in 1114 was one of the first Kurdish Kings of the provinces-Sheharzoor, Halabcha, Bani Khelan, Dizyash. He was the first to start a strong army and form the Jaff tribe that today has three million members. Other important leaders are King Mohammed Jaff, King Mahmoud Jaff, Dawood Jaff, and Sardar Jaff. Sherwana Castle was build in 1734 in Kalar, Kurdistan and home to the Jaff Family. There are three million followers in the Jaff tribe. After more than nine centuries the Jaff family still remain the political first family."

Located in the southern suburbs of Kalar, this beautiful octagonal castle, built in (1866-1874), serves as a historical landmark and museum. Although sometimes closed, the castle still offers an incredible experience with scenic views of the city and the Sirwan River, making it a great spot for photos. It’s easy to explore, with nicely decorated windows and historical layers dating back to "before cement" revolution. A visit in the early afternoon or evening is highly recommended for the best views.

تقع هذه القلعة في الضاحية الجنوبية لمدينة كلار مركز ادارة گرميان وحسب المصادر التاريخية والٲراء بنيت هذه القلعة في زمن(محمد باشا كيخسرو الجاف) في حوالي سنة (۱۸٦٦م/۱۸۷٤م) وهي تتكون من سرداب وطابقين اضافة الی غرفة ثماني الشكل في الطابق العلوي.... بنی (محمد باشا) هذه القلعة كمقر رئيسي لاستراحته ولأدارة المنطقة بٲعتباره رئيسا لقبيلته القلعة مبنية علی تلتين ، التلة الاولی عبارة عن تلة اثرية حيث كشفت التنقيبات التي اجريت فيها فترات استيطان حضارية مختلفة تعود لعدة مراحل تاريخية منها العصر الاسلامي(العباسي والاموي) اضافة الی فترتي الساسانية والكاشية وفي نفس الوقت وجدت مجموعة من لقی اثرية وصخور بركانية والتي يرجح ان تعود الی العصر الحجري... اما التلة الثانية والتي بنيت عليها القلعة مباشرة هي ايضا تلة اصطناعية. بشكل عام تصل ارتفاع القلعة الی (۱۲٫۳۰م) وتحيط بها اربعة ابراج مضلعة مكملة زوايا البناء والجزء الداخلي من القلعة مكونة من مجموعة من الغرف وغرف رئيسية ومداخن نارية مبنية بشكل هندسي منظم وزاخرة بمجموعة من النقوش والزخارف المختلفة والبارزة. وهذه الزخارف ذات اشكال نباتية وحيوانية ومقرنصات. القلعة تطل علی نهر سيروان وفي علو بارز لذا اصبحت مكان مميز للسياحة في المنطقة.

Nice ancient site with a great view of the city due to its high location. Some of it has been destroyed by the latest earthquakes but work was undergoing to repair the damaged areas. The castle is a sign of old amazing architecture, a true work or art, science and creativity

Kalar is a nice place with hot summers and cold winters and little rain. Sherwana Castle is a famous place in Kalar and Kalar Museum is located inside the castle. It is better to visit the castle early in the morning or evening due to high temperatures in summer.
