Lovely forest Park located a little over an hour outside of Dublin in Kingscourt, Co Cavan. Not much of a signpost until you are right on top of the entrance. It costs €5 to park, the machine takes change or card. There is plenty of parking, with a picnic area and public toilets pretty much beside the car park. All the walking routes start from the car park and are circular. One route is wheelchair accessible and is marked as such. We took the river path, which as the name suggests follows the river past a nice waterfall. Note on this route there are several sections with steps where we had to carry the buggy. This trail crosses the river again on a small wooden bridge before rejoining the village trail. There is a large pond with ducks after you emerge from the forest. Well worth a day trip.

We were not aware before arriving that the park costs €5. We had to scramble for change as the card reader on the kiosk would not read the 4 bank cards we tried. Everything else is great Plenty of picnic areas for family to sit at and plenty of shade for those sunny days. The park has many different routes to walk and the scenary is lovely. It's like something from Lord of the Rings at times. There are many old buildings scattered around the woodland being taken back by the forest and makes for interesting sights. The went was a scorcher of a day and the forests cool climate was a welcome relief. I would highly recommend a visit with the family for a small hike and picnic

What a fantastic hidden gem. You need to pay 5euro to get to the carpark. There is absolutely amazing Oak Coffee, with most delicious sausage roll, and home made, to die for cakes. Best latte I had in a long time. Well worth a trip just for a coffee and chat. Walk is lovely with tranquil sounds of river. Plenty of benches, picnic table, toilet facilities by the carpark. During the walk you will spot ruins of old buildings, there's Cabra cottage, Ice House, Duck pond, small waterfalls and even a spring with fresh water and a ladle to drink from! I loved the massive bridge and little viewing platform beside it.

Lovely short forest walk with wheelchair accessible walkway too. Only downside is that there is no fore warning (signage or other) to let you know that you need €5 exactly in coins to enter carpark. Card swipe not working on barrier the day I was there and only indication was small print on the machine at the entrance. Car queues as a result as the same confusion is common for all. Also €5 is a little steep. However, good toilet facility inside and lovely bench area for a BBQ/picnic. Forest walk has gentle/moderate slopes along the walking trail and very enjoyable. Kids can paddle in the shallow riverbed too in suitable places. Worth...
