Sadly there is no viable public bus access, almost zero for garbage cans or recycling bins, the only public toilets are porta potties (at least they have these) which are not handicapped accessible and by all smells and appearance rarely cleaned. Trails kept cleaned by Hercules effort of one guy with no signs of any government structure or purpose such as conservation officers to prevent over fishing, dumping, parties and rough sleepers. No lifeguards and few functional business. They need to remove the car access to peripheral, charge entry or at least parking, have dedicated government staff in uniforms (viable public jobs) and a dedicated first aid, lifeguard, showers / toilets buildings and pay rent campsite (remove the free car parking and cars and make these spaces tent camping. Among other ideas to make this a modern functional National Park. A huge disgrace for an otherwise lovely area. No succession plan visible and few abilities to access this park safely on foot. Speed limits too and into park rarely respected with a few near misses on turns and bends on approach with excessively...

I was a bit disappointed with this forest, after reading other reviews. It looked like it was a good place 20 years ago. The street lights are broke and bent and there's a old reciption type building that boarded up and falling apart. If you just want to take a picnic and look at a veiw or two then this is ok. If you go for a walk among the trees then after a while it get boring. Even my two dogs where bored. A lot of the paths are forestry tracks which are wide and after walking a while it's all the same. On one of the paths that was close to the lake it was still hard to see the lake through the trees. There's no bins for rubbish and no poop bins for dog waste. People had dumped filled poop bags on the ground outside the toilets. The toilets, although not far from the free carpark, has no signs to tell you where they where. The toilets have no electric light and the men's toilet window has wooden boards on it blocking out the day light....

Great forest park near Cavan town and Killashandra. There's lots of walks through forests, beside lakes, past a megalithic tomb or onto Killashandra. There's toilet facilities, good carkparks, picnic tables and plenty of green space for children to enjoy. I parked in the main carpark on the Cavan town side and did a 75 minute linear walk to Killashandra, I continued to do the Killashandra loop walk that links in to the walk back to the carpark and finished the whole walk in 2 hours and 45 minutes. I took a break in the walk for a lovely coffee and scone at Nanna Tillys, which isn't included in the walk time. There's areas that I didn't get to walk and could have spent the...

We were staying locally and decided to go for a walk around Killykeen Forest park. It was a Sunday and there were so many families enjoying the tasty treats and coffee from the little cafe hut, of course we had to get something! The white chocolate and raspberry cake was delicious. The icing omg 🤤 The açai bowl was so good too. We did then walk, think the red route. Was about an hour and half with a toddler who stopped every time to touch the grass/flowers/floor. The fairy trail was cute and my 4 year old liked finding those. Overall we would recommend.
