Maghera is one of a kind, vast plateau and bay of white gold sand. The cliffs, the caves and the natural tidal pools that appear at low tide, especially in summer time, are just out of this world. I won’t take a star for it, but I think this is worth mentioning: If you drive, there’s parking space on private land and you will be charged about €3 (as of 2022-2024) for a day. I believe it is cash only. In busy times there is a lot of space when the secondary field is opened, but if not, it’s quite narrow strip of land so make sure you are comfortable with manoeuvring your car a bit and park close to other cars to allow for others to have space too. Access to the beach itself is free of charge, only parking is paid. If you fancy a short walk, you could park at Assaranca waterfall free of charge and walk about one 1-1.5 km. This beach although scenic and amazing, is one of the most exposed to Atlantic winds, so usually is a bit breezy. Make sure that you have some layers just in case. You can usually find a spot behind white dunes to cover yourself from the wind, so not a bother, but I know some people are not fond of windy beaches. Cellular coverage might be a challenge there depending on network, so account for that if you’re dependent on signal and need it during your stay. There are definitely places where it can be found even if you initially get zero bars, but you might need to walk around to find less...

A beautiful beach. You can be here at time’s and have it all to yourself. It’s vast. Caves are fun to explore but BEWARE of tide...comes in very fast so if looking to explore the caves check for low tide times in advance. Not safe for swimming in my view. There is a car park owned by a local which is located a ten minute walk through scenic dunes...there is a charge of €3 implemented to park. No toilet facilities. Stop by the stunning waterfall on route. Take a right when leaving and the road will lead you to the Glencolmcille area via Glengesh Pass where you are afforded a stunning view...

Very beautiful beach in Maghera. The caves are also very good , It is worth the walk down the beach to get to the far caves as they are a lot bigger than the caves closest to the beach entrance. There is a parking fee of €3 here but Ice cream and drinks are also available here at the parking spot.

Do be very cautious of the tide as it comes in fast and you could be trapped, the water is not swimmable as the waves are large and there are strong currents (as guided by the sign that can be seen upon entering the beach)

One of my favourite beaches in...
