Finally I visited yesterday. Whoever has a minimum interest in Irish rural history or just wants to learn about a foregone past, so widespread in the west of Ireland, from Donegal in the northwest to the Blasket Islands in the southwest, whoever wants to get closer to the local community of the place they are visiting... they must pay a visit to the folk village. If you expect to find a hollywood style staging or a Disneyworld show... just keep on driving. Me being a foreigner (in love with Ireland) became surprised and upset about some of the reviews... so disrespectful about the people, the promoter of this place... it is about real people. Thanks a lot for your effort. 8€ is nothing for such a lovely visit. By the way, the vegetable soup served in the tea room is a must! Go raibh...
Read moreStayed in killybegs Marathon that finished here. This is a cute little village nestled amongst beautiful Donegal terrains with easy access to the beach. On a good day, I can happily chill there. During my trip it was raining all the time with big waves and was windy so didn't stay at the beach for long. There is lovely museum shop where you can buy jumpers, throws, preserves and other locally made products. At the museum you can buy ticket for the thatched roof cottages. They are well maintained and make great photos. There are plenty of local bars in the village and everyone in the village is super friendly, kept saying hello to so many people. Positive...
Read moreTucked away at the western edge of the vast county that is Donegal, Glencolmcille is a place we hadn't visited to date. We were delighted to find the Folk village where we enjoyed a lovely lunch and good coffee outdoors before walking into and around the houses of the village. We had read the guide book whilst we ate and enjoyed finding the different artifacts in each house : all close to hand and laid out as though the owners had just stepped out the door.
