The beauty of the place now in early May is indeed splendid. Bird song is sweet, particularly as one starts the climb proper at the picnic tables. I miss the singing where all the trees are cut between the two hills towards the Queen Meave trail. Thanks to The artists /woodcutter where the carvings of people and little woodland creatures keep us company. A peaceful retreat with special views of the lake and the Sea beyond. It's a wonderful amenity, frequented by many from...

A great location for activity and exercise. Choose one of three branching paths around the hill, allowing you to tailor the length of walk from 3-4km approx. Take the new outer trail, the view of the surrounding country is fantastic. Also of note are the ruins of castle hacket on the approach, queen meadbh's cairn on top of the hill (although not directly accessible, you will need to leave the path), and a seat atop a large pile of rock , the remains of filming...

A great place for quick tracking, recommend for kids and intermediate level, kids loved it and didn't realize how fast we finished climbing they were busy searching fairy doors and counting them. Some of the part is bit slippery. View points are great too. Loved exploring through it and the old building on the entrance was great fun for kids to explore bit...

Knockma, the great Hill of Queen Maeve is situated 8km west of Tuam, near Belclare. The hill is very historic and reputed to be the burial place of Queen Maeve. The hill is steep in spots, but has lots of rest areas. The pathways are well maintained. The views from the top are spectacular, especially to the West over Galway and Mayo. Well worth a visit if in the area.
