Really enjoyed this visitor centre. The grounds and views are amazing and magical on their own however the short audio tour of the grounds really added to our experience. The archaeological information was interesting and the myths and stories at the end of the audio really brought the place to life and increased the mystical atmosphere of the area. The visitor centre is small however their is an exhibition room with interactive displays including dress up clothes. There is a toilet, hot and cold drinks machines and a small selection of gifts including some interesting books on the area and ancient sights. The staff that were working the day we were there were very helpful and friendly. We also ate our picnic beside the lake. We spent 2-3 hours here but we could have spent longer if we'd taken one of the longer walks. Our family of four with 11 and 14 year old boys was very enjoyable. I also recommend stopping at the Grange stone circle very near to the...
Read moreReally nice and enjoyable walk. Scenery is amazing, the place itself is situated in a quiet and remote area, and I believe it can be a nice spot for picnic. If it is true what adds at the entry say kayaking, guided tours and some other activities are offered, but I was there early morning on Sunday when all facilities were closed, so I can not confirm that with 100 % certainty. The only thing I was disappointed with was the length of the trails in the area. I was expecting them to be much longer, ideally to allow to walk around the lake, but I do understand that because some land over there is privately owned, it is not possible to build a path around the whole lake. Still, it was worth going over there, and if my german shepherd could speak " human" I am sure he would agree with this statement😁. For now he just says" whooofff", which I believe means: " you are right bud. Give me my...
Read moreVery lovely park to stroll around it. It's just a pity that you can't walk completely around the lake. Would be much nicer. Would also be lovely if they reconstructed exactly what it looked like, with all the former crannóg's (ancient Irish man-made islands made of trees and ancient debris) and other former buildings. Would be so lovely to see how it formally looked like. Lovely surrounding sights too such as the stone circle, and the wedge tomb, and remains of two round forts. The fairy garden is very cute but could do with much more houses and things to call it a fairy village. Interpretive Centre is very nice and informative......but a bit on the extensive side. Staff are okay but not particularly friendly compared to other places in Ireland. Definitely worth a visit if...
