Really enjoyed this visitor centre. The grounds and views are amazing and magical on their own however the short audio tour of the grounds really added to our experience. The archaeological information was interesting and the myths and stories at the end of the audio really brought the place to life and increased the mystical atmosphere of the area. The visitor centre is small however their is an exhibition room with interactive displays including dress up clothes. There is a toilet, hot and cold drinks machines and a small selection of gifts including some interesting books on the area and ancient sights. The staff that were working the day we were there were very helpful and friendly. We also ate our picnic beside the lake. We spent 2-3 hours here but we could have spent longer if we'd taken one of the longer walks. Our family of four with 11 and 14 year old boys was very enjoyable. I also recommend stopping at the Grange stone circle very near to the visitor centre.

Lovely setting and pretty scenery of little hills around the lake, but don’t go if you want long walks around the lake or up the hills. The lake front is no longer than a kilometre and you can walk the whole trail in about 30 minutes. Big gates and fences prevent you from wandering off into the wilds, so everything is contained and controlled. If you throw in a coffee and a bit of history, there is nothing much to keep you here longer than an hour. With a bit of imagination and ambition from Limerick county council, it could have been so much bigger and better. Disappointing. Good for parking, toilets and child friendly activities. For a proper full day walking, drive south for half an hour to the Ballyhoura mountain walking trails. Much more fulfilling and refreshing.

Lough Gur. Our student’s group had a great trip to Lough Gur on Monday. We listened an interesting talk about this place’s history from Stone Age to modern times at Lough Gur Visitor Center. After with tour guide Brian we had short walk around area. It was gorgeous! It’s a one of the most beautiful places Ireland! There is a lake, hills, small forest, castle’s ruins. Finally, we visited Great Stone Circle, which was built several thousand years ago. I’m really grateful to Kate and Brian for this amazing day! My classmates and I had a great time and have taken a lot of pictures.

Definitely amazing experience when you get there, cozy and peaceful atmosphere, ambience, the archaeology and history dating back to Stone Age times. There is also a retail area, playground and coffee dock. Admission price, Adult €5.00, Senior Citizen/Student €4.00, Child €3.00 & a Family Ticket is €15.00. Reasonable price. The exhibition is suitable for all ages and brings the visitor on a journey through the history of Lough Gur starting during the Mesolithic Era, and progressing until the 19th century. Toilets are located at the main entrance to Lough Gur. Enjoy the moment 😉

Quaint little spot. Picturesque, quiet, peaceful, beautiful. Built right into the hill. There’s a little playground and lots of benches and picnic tables around if you can find a decent warm day when the seats aren’t wet. This backs right up to a farm and there were cows walking right along the fence. The visitor center also has a small museum in it, but it wasn’t open when we stopped by. The lough alone is worth the visit, but altogether a nice little spot to check out if in the area.

I have been here last Saturday for a family picnic. Thoroughly enjoyed the day with sunny weather, beautiful water body, steep trail , children play area and a picnic area. Nice coffee shop. A good place to spend a whole day, better to bring food. Great place to walk, bike and nice dining tables to have food. The lawn is well maintained and we used to mats to seat down and have lunch as a family.
