The hidden Ireland. A wonderful interpretive centre. Built in a bog.A real treasure. A piece of archaeology that gives a real insight into Iron -Age Ireland. As the guide said, we can only speculate as to the reason for the construction of this road.It must have been a real herculanean-effort to construct this road in such a short period of time. It is disappointing to hear that the centre is only open over the summer months (April- October). It cost the state a lot of money back in the late 1980's ans early 1990's to finance the project, - (well worth it in my view) - so it is a shame that the OPW do not consider it important enough to run year-round. It closes at a time when schools and universities return for the academic year.Does the Irish state not do joined-up thinking? Government Departments should communicate with each other.Shame on the OPW and their department. As I described earlier, 'the hidden Ireland', so hidden, that Government departments (Education, Tourism and Culture & Heritage ) don't seem to see...

Absolutely a Gem! An amazing artefact that deserves protection at all costs. The staff are incredible—dedicated and doing their utmost to preserve the Trackway. The guide was both passionate and highly knowledgeable, making the experience even more memorable.

Unfortunately, the site is severely underfunded, and as a result, the Trackway is beginning to dry out. If no action is taken, it may eventually deteriorate beyond repair. I believe it might be necessary to undergo the full preservation process again, possibly in Portsmouth, given their expertise with the Mary Rose—which still looks fantastic.

Ideally, the Trackway should be housed under glass to create a more controlled environment. It’s disheartening that, because the site is off the main tourist trail, the OPW seems to show little interest. There’s barely any advertising, and even less effort toward proper preservation—despite the fact that doing so would likely cost less than Dublin’s infamous “bike...

Lovely Wetlands Park , a spur just off the Royal Canal Greenway ,brings you through working turf banks & forestry,I imagine it a popular spot with walkers, families An Oasis of peace & Calm ,until I ran across 2 very stupid women with 2 Alsatians running free, ruined the ambience & almost ruined my weekend, anyway the complete Loop is 7/8 km long,I'm told by the enthusiastic young Guide in the Visitor centre,He was a very pleasant young man indeed, was keen to show us around ,Very informative & knew his history well, indeed, this place has a compelling story too, with Relics/Replicas/Artifacts recovered of a by gone age, History in the place was very well highlighted displayed, documented, hats off to whoever came up with this venture,Anyone who's never been ,I recommend it ,2/3 different car parks from various roads ,as well as the Canal connection.Let them young guns run free, just watch out for a couple of careless...

If you're visiting Longford or Roscommon or the Midlands at all, you should take a detour to Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre. Set in a raised bog outside the village of Stonepark, Corlea is a remarkable reminder of the skills and traditions of our Celtic cousins. The guides at the centre are most helpful and the carefully preserved track left us awestruck. There is a short Audio Visual presentation which is starting to show its age but is a good place to start. I have visited this centre twice and on both occasions it has been very quiet. What a shame this is because this centre and the history within it is on a par with the Ceide Fields in Co. Mayo. The centre is best for teenagers and up as the exhibits aren't altogether child friendly. And finally, bring a picnic as there's a lovely area to sit with a cup of tea outside. Bring your own tea as there's no machine etc. Within the centre.
