Nice place to walk, relax, breathe fresh air and have a beautiful view to the mountains and sea. Take at least one hour and half of your time to do the shortest trail around the mountain. The trail is easy but at some points you can get your shoes a little bit wet, so get prepared to this. You can park your car for free over there, and head to the trails. There are three options of trail, a short trail, a medium one, and the longest one. The shortest takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes to be done (I did this one). It is an easy trail, most of it flat and very well signed. People was walking there with their dogs and kids. Apart the mountain you also have a beautiful view to the sea. I did it during weekdays so it was empty and I didn’t have any problem to find a spot to park the car, just went there and started the trail. Don’t forget to bring a bottle of water with you, some snacks to eat while sitting at the benches they have at some viewing points, and a bag to bring back with you the packages so you can leave no trace at the trail. I didn’t see bathrooms over there. Enjoy your time there...
Read moreBenbulben has always caught our attention when heading to/from Sligo, so decided we wanted to get a bit closer. The carpark is easy to find via Google maps. Free parking for 12-18 cars (depending on parking abilities lol) No toilets. Please take your rubbish home with you. Map, description and signpost at the carpark. Gravel ground so I recommend trainers or walking shoes, not sandals. We took water with us as it was a hot day. We opted for the 'red' route, 5.5kms, and this took us anticlockwise. Absolutely gorgeous day for it as you can see by the blue sky! Fairly flat on the most part. Slightly steep downwards when we got near the main road, but the incline uphill again wasn't overly noticeable. This walk took us 1hr 15mins or so. I stopped plenty to take photos (as usual!) and we sat for a few mins on one of the benches provided. Easy route and was lovely to get a proper look at Benbulben, rather than the usual gawping out the...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful walks in the area with absolutely stunning views. We were a bit unlucky with the weather towards the end but it was still well worth it. There is plenty of free parking from which you can start your journey. 3 different routes are available, range from 4km to just over 5.5km and all loop back to where you start. We took middle one and finished in just under 2 hours. The hike isn't hard but I'd still suggest to bring enough water and snacks. There are no shops or other facilities in the area but that doesn't spoil the...
