Our favourite beach of all the beaches in that stretch of shore near Sligo. Road to it seems dodgy and parking would probably be around 20-30 cars max. We went 3 of the 5 days we stayed there. From car to beech it's maybe 30-60secs over some steep rocks or some loose small stone. Greta for kite flying or some simple surfing for young kids. Enough older surfers coming and going too. Seen horses riding on nearby stretch of beach.

If weather turns then there's grange nearby with soft play for kids....but we were on 'summer' holidays and determined not to give in to indoor play areas so we had £25 pop up trespass tent and simple card games as back up. Handy for kids after coming out of cold Atlantic water. I think I was the only Irish eejit to be in shorts and bare chest, everyone else in wetsuits. But honestly wasn't too bad after you managed to get your body under.

The waves come in and out more safely than on other beaches I found too. Tried some surfing (knee deep water with kids body board) at strandhill and doing that your feet got buried with sand very quick the way the waves came in at funny angles. Lie waves came in at 45 degree angle 2 at a time and created a swirl which was a bit disconcerting as my feet got buried and a little stuck almost immediately but then as wave subsided they became less stuck but there's a wee 10second moment were you wonder if you are going to keep sinking...needless to say I'm not that guy who goes out and swims in the sea were my feet can't easily...

Streedagh Beach is truly a hidden gem on the Sligo coastline. The beach itself is absolutely stunning — long, clean, and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. It’s an ideal spot for a peaceful walk, enjoying the sea breeze, or simply taking in the vast views of the Atlantic. Whether you're into photography, nature, or just looking for a quiet escape, this beach offers a wonderful experience.

However, getting to the beach can be a bit challenging. The access roads leading to Streedagh are very narrow, making it quite difficult for two cars to pass each other at the same time. If you're not used to driving on tight rural roads, you might find it a bit stressful, especially during busy times.

Additionally, the parking area could really use some improvement. It’s not well-constructed or clearly marked, and during peak hours it can be quite chaotic. A more organized parking layout would definitely enhance the overall experience for visitors.

That said, once you make it to the beach, it’s absolutely worth it. The natural beauty and tranquility of Streedagh more than make up for the minor inconveniences. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Sligo, just be prepared for a tight...

Beautiful unspoilt beach near Grange in County Sligo. It's easy to spend the afternoon here walking along the beach, swimming and sunbathing. There's a lifeguard located on the beach, toilet facilities, a carpark and usually an ice-cream van. It's important to check the high tide times on the information board or with the lifeguard because the sea comes in on both sides of the beach, like a peninsula. The carpark is on the other side of the sand dunes from the beach and you won't see the tide coming in near the cars, so it's best to leave 90 minutes before a high tide. Cars have been known to get stuck in the high tide. Most of the carpark is fine and you will have no problem once you understand the nature of the tide coming in around both sides of the beach. Don't let the tide put you off coming here, just leave well before high tide. It's a stunning location with Ben Bulben and the Sligo mountains in...

Love love love loved this beach so quiet loads of breathing space. Great for meditation, relaxation taking in the beauty. That only thing the that annoyed me was my dog escaped from the leash, could see the little wagon against the stones. Now if anyone that was on that beach saw me running around aimlessly that looked like I was having a race with myself like a loose cannon nope I was running after the smallest little boyo. 🤣 I think he loved the freedom on that beach thankfully after a half hour he stopped running.
