Absailing with Mark Honeyman down Killiney Hill. Great fun. 1992. From the top of the hill one can view Dublin to the northwest - the Irish Sea and the mountains of Wales (on a clear day) to the east and southeast - and Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains to the south. Killiney Hill is circa 150 metres high. The hill supplied much of the rock to build DunLaogjaire pier and so was once higher. The obelisk was completed in 1742 and commemorates the victims of the Famine of 1740-41. It was built as part of the general Famine relief scheme for the poor of the area.

It's a great location to see the Dublin City landscape. There is a nearby carpark, and a 10/15mins walk to the monument. During a clear sky day, it's worth going here to see the sunset. It's an extraordinary scene to see the city under the golden light. Sometimes it's hard to tell even with clear sky, Sun disappears, typical Irish weather. But it's worth going here. There are other walking trails that can be found here.

Perfect walk for a sunny day. I came from Dublin by DART to Dalkey and walked up both Dalkey Hill and Killiney Hill from the ocean road instead of taking one of the main entrances. I guess there are a few more steps in this way but the view from the road is also very beautiful! I will surely visit this place more times in summer

No matter the season or time of day, the stiff walk to the Obelisk is always rewarding. The Obelisk on top of Killiney Hill stands 153m above sea level. Inscription: "Last year being hard with the poor, walks about these hills and this were erected by John Mapas, June 1742".

Wonderful view point in the outskirts of Dublin, easily accessible with the Dart train. Good for a weekend hike and can be combined with a dip at the beach, or also a jog home to Dublin along the coast (15k). Enjoy. Ps: Bono (U2) has a private residence in the area too

Want to get a view of Dublin port and city from top of hill? This is the place for you. Around 12-15km from main city centre. You can reach here by bus or Dart. Great view of city and killiney beach. People who are living nearby are lucky to get such good views.
