Ardgillan Castle
Ardgillan Castle
Ardgillan Castle, located between Balbriggan and Skerries in North County Dublin, is a charming 18th-century country house set amidst 194 acres of parkland overlooking the Irish Sea. Originally named Prospect House, the central section was constructed in 1738 by Robert Taylor, with the west and east wings added in the late 1800s. The estate remained the family home of the Taylors for over two centuries before being sold in 1962. In 1982, Dublin County Council acquired the demesne, and it is now managed by Ardgillan Castle Ltd., under the auspices of Fingal County Council .Ardgillan Castle+3The Irish Sun+3Fingal County Council+3Ardgillan Castle+2Ardgillan Castle+2The Irish Sun+2Ardgillan Castle+1Fingal County Council+1

Read moreAn absolute treasure nestled in stunning surroundings. The grounds are impeccably maintained, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely day out. As soon as we stepped inside, the castleâs strong character captivated us, with its walls almost whispering tales of its rich history. Every room feels like a window into the past, and itâs hard not to be enchanted by the timeless beauty of it all. The outdoor picnic area is fantastic, offering benches and tables where families can relax and enjoy a meal in the open air. On a sunny day, I imagine itâs the perfect setting for a picnic, but even during our visit, when it was windy and cloudy, we still found the experience thoroughly enjoyable!
One of the highlights of our visit was reaching the "Ladyâs Stairs." As we approached, I felt a strong, almost eerie sensation that gave me chills in the best possible way. Itâs moments like these that make the castle feel alive with history and mystery!
We stopped at the charming coffee shop inside the castle. They serve a variety of delicious sandwiches, cakes, pies, cookies, and of course, teas and coffees. It was the perfect way to warm up after walking around the grounds, and everything we tried was fresh and tasty.
