With a breathtaking backdrop of rugged mountains and the azure Atlantic Ocean, this beach offers an idyllic setting for relaxation and outdoor adventures.

The soft, golden sands stretch for miles, making it ideal for leisurely strolls, picnics, or simply basking in the sun. Keel Beach is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions, attracting surfers of all levels who seek the perfect wave. For nature enthusiasts, the surrounding landscape is a haven of wildlife and birdwatching. A walk along the beach unveils a diverse array of seabirds, seals, and if you're lucky, dolphins frolicking in the sea. Keel village, adjacent to the beach, offers charming local shops, cozy cafés, and traditional Irish pubs, providing a taste of the island's warm hospitality and culture.

However, it's worth noting that the weather on Achill Island can be unpredictable, so it's best to come prepared with layers and rain gear. Breathtaking views,a heaven for walkers, surfers, kite surfers, where to start and where to finish with this beautiful beach, I just love it! Walk the worries away or just talk a stroll. Either way this beach is worth a visit. If photography is a part of your life as it is mine you will be spoilt here. Busiest times July and August....the rest of the time you could have the beach all to yourself. Check it out, even on a wet and windy winters day people go there even just to take it all in and gather their thoughts. As far as I know the public toilets are open from about April through to September but I am sure someone else will clarify this. In the season there are fantastic restaurants, pubs and a cafe open nearby so don't be stuck! From about April through to early September there is even a fully functioning campsite open with fantastic amenities so why wait go enjoy the beach but stay safe if entering the water here as there are rib currents. Signage regarding same is present too and for the months of July and August until the beginning of September lifeguards are present everyday on this...

Possibly one of the most well resourced beaches in the West of Ireland - certainly the best in Achill. The requisite Blue Flag with its attendant qualities & life guards are almost taken for granted nowadays. However clean fully functional public toilets, a 4 Star excellent Caravan & Camping Park (Keel Sandybanks), two mobile Crepes vans and one ice cream van are certainly added luxury hard to find in many places. The beach itself is pristine, framed by beautiful cliffs on one side, has a long - almost 500m of shallows at low tide & clean yellow sand. Add on to all this three separate water sports, kite surfing board surfing & nearby kayaking & you have the making of a First Class Beach Resort. A special word about Michael's Crepe Factory (the yellow van). Michael is a fully trained Chef & his crepes belong in a top Creperie - not in a van! His is THE special treat...

Lovely beach for a walk in the morning or just before sundown. Keel beach is also an amazing beach for surfing and I would highly recommend bringing you surfboard. Lifeguards are on duty for some of the year during peak times. The views from the beach were amazing as you will see in my pictures. There’s a campsite right beside the beach and a guesthouse and there is a small shop 5 minutes walk away. There is also a crepe van behind the beach and I would highly recommend that too. Overall I loved keel beach, I would love to live here!

You will be blessed if you experience this beach - a walk, a surf, a sit and chill, it’s wonderful and ticks many beachy boxes. We visited with pup and explored and swam, really wonderful and we have seen a lot of beaches. Adequate warnings for the rip tide risks and you need to take care with this, easy to get into difficulty of not careful. Always sad to see the extent of fishing industry detritus, they need to take more responsibility for their waste chucked into the sea.

Lovely huge, clean, soft and sandy beach. Great for kite flying and dog walking, there is also a small but busy surf school here, but beach is big enough, it is not crowded and was virtually empty when we visited midweek in May. Campervan and car parking behind the bank of pebbles, right at the beach. There is a local shop that sells gelato, drinks, baked goods, wine, staples etc and a small butchers on the main road just before turning into beach parking.
