One of Ireland's major national monuments, Derrynane House was the home of Daniel O Connell, known as "The Liberator". O Connell is regarded as one of the greatest Irish leaders. A visit to Derrynane House will allow the visitor to gain an insight into the historical and cultural background of O Connell's work and achievements in the first half of the 19th century. Viewing of Derrynane House is by guided tour only. The House itself now forms part of a National Historic Park , with a wider context in terms of other historic monuments in the area, the natural landscape of sea, beach and mountains and the flora and fauna of this beautiful part of County Kerry. For visitors, there is a nearby parking area, toilets, picnic...

Wonderful visit. The house is lovely with the furnishings, artifacts, displays, and video telling the history and story of Daniel O’Connell, but even if you have no interest in history you can thoroughly enjoy the building, period furnishings, and grounds. There are excellent gardens, a nice cafe tea house, and it’s basically right on Derrynane beach just over an elevation.

I was generally familiar with O’Connell’s political role as the “Great Liberator” but it was interesting to learn more about his career as a successful barrister and his family history. Given how remote the house is by road in the era of cars it’s hard to imagine how the house was an active social scene and place of business...

Any scale operation that refuses card payments for both tickets and food is being wilfully provocative; these days, that's just crass and selfish. The alternative is a twenty minute walk back to a pub where they offer cashback in exchange for drinks you don't need. Signage in the gardens is spectacularly poor and is a practical guarantee of going round in circles. Soup in the tea rooms, meanwhile, comes out in one temperature: white heat, a tongue-flaying physical mortification to complement all the mental ones. If you can stay level-headed enough to appreciate the house exhibits after all that lot, you're...

This attraction offers a lot more than we first thought. The house and gardens are amazing but there is also a brilliant cafe on site. Food is excellent!! There are a few walks around the estate too. We went on a 3 hr hike starting from the gardens, along the beach, down by the harbour and takes in a good part of the Kerry Way. Relatively easy but not suitable for buggies. And then you have Derrynane Beach. It could be one of the spectacular beaches in the country. It’s stunning. So we went there for what we thought was going to be an hour or so. But you could easily spend the full day there. It’s really good.

Stopped off during our drive around the Ring of Kerry for a quick drink/snack and bathroom break. There is a big carpark which you can find through the main gates to the house. Maps will send you in slightly the wrong direction so please just go through the main gate! The had a few bathrooms which were all clean and free to use. The cafe had a nice selection of hot drinks, cakes and hot food available to order with seating both inside and outside. The gardens are also very lovely for a quick walk. This was a very lovely stop during our trip.
