A delightful surprise just off the Ring of Kerry. I took a chance turning off the mai road and was happy to find myself here.

Definitely worthwhile especially in the fine weather.

The drive up is via a single lane road. As long as you take your time you will be fine. Keep your eyes out for oncoming traffic and be ready to move into one of the numerous side areas to pull to one side. There is an etiquette but hand signals out of the window, patience and a friendly smile will go a long way.

There are public conveniences in the carpark. Entry is via a short path and a 1 euro honour system.

The fort itself looks well maintained and very in tune with the surrounds. Within it the outside world is shut out and it is very peaceful. It is formidable in how this ancient structure has survived and dominates...

Staigue Stone Fort is a fascinating piece of ancient history tucked away in the beautiful countryside of County Kerry, Ireland. This well-preserved Iron Age fort, estimated to be over 2,000 years old, is a testament to early Irish engineering. The circular structure, with its thick stone walls and inner terraces, offers a glimpse into the past and the lives of those who once sought protection within its walls.

The fort's remote location adds to its charm, providing stunning views of the surrounding landscape. It’s a peaceful spot, perfect for history enthusiasts and those seeking a quiet, reflective moment in nature. Visiting Staigue Stone Fort feels like stepping back in time, making it a must-see when exploring the...

If you are all about being off the beaten path; if you like to feel the aura of ancient places without crowds of tourists; if you do not mind driving on a single-car-width road and possibly having to backup to let a local pass going the other way then you will love this site. Others that reviewed it found all the above a bother---not me---just the opposite. I felt more of a connection here to my Irish, Gaelic, Celtic roots (as a Yank with a Polish last name no less) than anywhere else I visited during my two weeks in Ireland. There was something mystical about this place that I still feel years later (we visited in...

The opportunity to stand inside Staigue Stone Fort and consider how many lives had passed over that ground in the 1700 years since it was built was wonderful ... and thought provoking. The roadway in is a bit of a challenge as it is several KM's of single lane, but everyone was polite, pulled over, and passage was achieved by all. There is a parking lot for about 20 cars, as well as public toilets. There is a 2 Euro fee box at the entry. The fort is well maintained and the view is extraordinary, from the treeless bowl surrounding it to the distant ocean.
