Waterville is the only seafront village on the Ring if Kerry, so this beach and promenade is smack in the middle of the village by the car park. (There are other bigger beaches, too) On stormy days, great for snapping photos of waves on Ballinskelligs Bay at high tide crashing on stones. On calmer days, great for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and beach walks! LOTS of birds down towards the north end by the cliffs. A big ravens nest, and zillions of other small birds. There's a slipway by the car park that CAN get slick with seaweed. There's another slipway down to the sand to the right, at the end of the promenade walk. The much longer beach is down by Waterville Golf Links, one kilometre away.

The biting wind hits you from the get-go. Walk towards the promenade and stand still and listen. As the waves leave the shore, there's a gentle rattling and bubbling sound. It's the music of the pebbles grazing each other when the water moves them as it washes back to the Atlantic Sea. It's no surprise that Charlie Chaplin made Waterville his annual pilgrimage. You'll find a statue dedicated and recording his love for this tiny compact town. A must stop on your journey along the Ring of Kerry.

Lovely little village/town. With a history involving Charlie Chaplin who, as the story goes, was told the fishing here was exceptional, so travelled here, fell in love with the place, lived the fishing, the peace, the Irish folk ... bought a place (there seem to be differing thoughts on this bit !) but came regularly , as have his children and grandchildren. We had a lovely chat with the local artist (from Canada!) ... thank you to the local council for making motorhomes welcome. There are public toilets at the...
