This place location wise is second to none with such breathtaking scenery from the cafe’s rooftop terrace! Some of the finest views in all of Kerry I would dare say. And the staff too were both friendly and helpful. However, I must take issue with one particular item on the menu. As it happens it was also the dearest item thereon. I’m referring to what was billed as a “striploin steak sandwich”. Yum yum I thought, I’ll have that! And for such pleasure I paid the not inconsiderable sum of €13.95. Now in the UK they have a thing call the Trade Descriptions Act (1968). I’m not sure what the equivalent act in Ireland is but this “striploin steak sandwich” certainly seemed to contravene it as it arrived as a striploin steak sitting atop ONE piece of bread! Yes, you read that correctly: ONE piece of bread and it was calling itself a sandwich! Everyone from the Earl of Sandwich himself right down the pecking order knows that a sandwich is anything, be it fish, cheese, salad or striploin steak contained (and this is the crucial bit) between TWO pieces of bread. What I was served in Ladies’ View Gift Store Cafe Bar & Restaurant was not therefore a sandwich! I would plead with the owners to stop contravening whatever the Irish version of the Trade Descriptions Act is and start serving proper striploin steak sandwiches on TWO pieces of bread! It’s time to call a sandwich a sandwich and to...
Read moreSpectacular views of the lakes from high up on the mountain. A wonderful perspective! A birds eye view of the lakes, in multiple directions, providing potential for some excellent photos. The Ring of Kerry provides for some wonderful photo opportunities, but this location is one of the best. I love taking pictures with my 35mm DSLR but opportunities like this, in my mind, call for something more. When opportunities like this arise, I take my 35mm pictures but then I reach for my phone and utilize the panorama feature of its camera to complete my picture taking adventure. I feel as though my panoramic pictures are a perfect compliment to the photos taken with my 35mm camera. At the end of the day, you are telling a story with your photos. I believe that panoramic pictures help me to provide the most complete description of my photo adventure. If opportunity knocks for you, open the door and allow for a very unique perspective to enter into your photo story telling. I think you will be...
Read moreThe view is to die for and the drive there might actually do the job. First time left side drivers be aware: While "Ladies View" must definitely be on your list of "Not To Be Missed" in Ireland the roadway, "Ring of Kerry", must be taken seriously and carefully. There are a number of blind corners with little enough room for two cars to pass and even less with an oncoming coach. In any case, the view is worth the drive. Also, if you're sure footed, there is a small path that leads down to a rocky outcrop that affords phenomenal photos of the Upper Lake. I'm not certain if Killarney National Park condones patrons of the park traipsing past the roadway barriers but I did witness two young couples braving the path. Enjoy the view, have an ice cream (€2.20 for two scoops) and then brave the return drive knowing you have witnessed one of the wonders...
